Introduction

Brunel is currently searching for a Corporate Estimator for a long-term contract position with our mining client. The position will be based in Phoenix on a hybrid schedule working from home and travel to engineering office as needed.

What are you going to do

This will be responsible for complying with company corporate estimating procedures while developing and reviewing, and validating estimates.

Duties include:

  • Reviewing and assessing contractor estimates, bids, and proposals for overall completeness and competitiveness against market conditions, while also assuring the contractor has met overall corporate estimating guidelines.
  • Reviewing all classes of estimates including AACE Class 5 through Clas 1 estimates.
  • Reviewing contractor prepared Estimate Execution Plans (EEP).
  • Attending estimate progress meetings during preparation of an estimate.
  • Acting as owner's representative and subject matter expert while liaising with contractors during preparation of estimates.
  • Validating and benchmarking contractor prepared estimates using internal and external sources of data.
  • Reviewing contractor prepared Basis of Estimate (BoE) documents.
  • Preparing early phase factored estimates using internally developed tools.
  • Developing Direct, Indirect, Escalation, Contingency, and Owner's Cost elements for estimates.
  • Assisting in the collection of project actuals for incorporation into estimating benchmarking database.
  • Working with Project Controls Manager to develop Owner's Costs for estimates.
  • Working with Corporate Estimating Manager to ensure all corporate estimating standard operating procedures are adhered to.
  • Assisting in yearly Estimating Department corporate initiatives.
  • This position will report to the Corporate Estimating Manager.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of related experience or 14 years of experience if non-degreed.
  • Familiarity with heavy civil and heavy industrial construction practices and benchmarks.
  • Familiarity with "Blue Book" for reviewing and developing construction equipment rates.
  • Familiarity with estimating software such as Hard Dollar, Cleopatra, RS Means, etc.
  • Strong skillset in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Power BI.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels; management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Preferred understanding of AACE Estimating Requirements and stage gate approach to projects.
  • MUST be local to commute to Phoenix office and must be eligible to work for any employer in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship.

Offer:

  • This position offers up to $700/ flat daily rate.
  • Full-time contractors are eligible for benefits. Benefits include medical, dental and vision that will begin on your first day of employment. 401K matching - 50% match, up to 3%.
  • Position includes accrued 3 days of PTO and accrued 5 sick days satisfying Arizona state law. No paid holidays.
  • Position will be based on a 5 day work week, average working day is 10 hours.
