Introduction

On behelf of Chevron Australia, we are currentky seeking an experienced Completions and Well Intervention Engineer to join the Wells team within the Australia Business Unit based in Perth, Western Australia.

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in design and planning, and in providing engineering support for wellsite activities including completions, well interventions, and well workovers. Experience in well plug and abandon operations would be highly advantageous. The position is primarily based in Perth with site visits to Barrow Island, Western Australia, or other locations as required.

What are you going to do

  • Ensure all work is planned and conducted in compliance with Chevron standards, policies, and procedures, and in compliance with safety case and environmental plan commitments.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as production engineers, drilling engineers, business partners, and regulators, to ensure alignment and integration of completions and well intervention engineering objectives and deliverables.
  • Design and optimize well completion and intervention programs considering reservoir characteristics, well objectives, operational constraints, and HSE requirements.
  • Perform completion and well intervention engineering for land-based well types, including CO2 injection, water production, water injection, subsurface surveillance, and conventional hydrocarbon.
  • Perform planning engineering for water injection well flowback and clay stabilization treatments, including management and oversight of coiled tubing, nitrogen pumping, fluid pumping, and surface well testing services.
  • Perform planning engineering for various wellhead maintenance, slickline, e-line, coiled tubing, workover, and P&A services as required.
  • Lead or participate in technical reviews and risk assessments of completion and well intervention activities, ensuring adherence to Chevron's assurance processes and quality standards.
  • Provide engineering support to the Wells Superintendent and Wellsite Representatives throughout planning and wellsite execution.
  • Mentor and coach junior well engineers, sharing knowledge and experience, and fostering a culture of learning and development.
  • Manage Business Partner interfaces including general contract management, generation of purchase orders and service requests, ongoing interface meetings, and post-job reporting.
  • Identify and plan critical spares inventory for planned and unplanned well maintenance, intervention, and workover of well stock.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new technologies, tools, and techniques for completions and well intervention engineering, enhancing operational safety.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Australian Full working rights
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in mechanical, chemical, petroleum, or a related discipline.
  • Well control certification, e.g., IADC or IWCF (or certification at own expense).
  • Extensive and relevant experience in completions and well intervention engineering, with exposure to various techniques such as slickline, e-line, coiled tubing, acid stimulation, ESP workover, P&A.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, execute, and evaluate complex and challenging completion and intervention operations, applying sound engineering principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse and team environment.
  • Proven teamwork and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence and motivate others.
  • High level of initiative, creativity, and innovation, with the ability to adapt to changing situations and learn from feedback.
