Introduction

  • The Commissioning Specialist / Manager is responsible for ensuring Project assurance readiness requirements are met for pre-commissioning & system turn over from EPC Contractor as well as assistance with Company commissioning & startup.
  • The project includes the design, construction, and commissioning of a greenfield petrochemicals complex in Ras Laffan, Qatar to produce ethylene and high-density polyethylene (HDPE).
  • The reporting location of this role presents an excellent and unique opportunity in that the successful candidate could work in a variety of domestic and international locations over the next several years.
  • The selected candidate will participate in detailed design at the engineering contractor(s) location, which are yet to be determined, but could be domestic or international. The project will be constructed, commissioned, and operated in the State of Qatar.
  • As such, work locations are subject to change based on business need and requires flexibility during the 5–6-year scope of the project.

What are you going to do

Engineering & Procurement Phase (Engineering Office)

  • Review/Approve Contractor’s detailed planning and management plans of all mechanical completion, pre-commissioning & handover execution activities
    • Review & Approve pre-commissioning procedures
    • Review & Approve turnover dossier development
    • Review & Approve system definition
  • Review with Operation/Maintenance Team, commissioning plans and procedures to verify continuity with project turnover

    Construction, Commissioning & Start-up Phase (Site)

  • Ensure project MOC procedures (Management of Changes) are followed during verification of pre-commissioning activities
  • Assist in verification of hydrostatic testing system conformity
  • Assists with verification of Contractors claimed status of Pre-Commissioning/Turnover progress
  • Report progress of pre-commissioning activities
  • Assist with PSSR of all systems
  • Verifies Take-Over XP is up to date and accurately reporting the status of the work.
  • Verification of pre-commissioning and turnover packages to confirm compliance with project and contractor specifications.
  • Verification of completion certificates of systems and equipment in preparation for system turnover
  • Provides support to Company Operations/Maintenance Commissioning & Startup Team.
  • Other job duties will be assigned from time to time.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • 10–15 years work experience in refining/petrochemical industry in Construction/Commissioning or Technical Degree
  • Working knowledge of Industry Codes and Standards related to plant design (Sate of Qatar is plus)
  • Knowledge of IEC and IPA standards is a definite plus.
  • Candidate should possess an ability to review and understand specifications P&ID’s ILD’s and related drawings.
  • Good working knowledge of Mechanical, Piping, Instruments/DCS/ PLC’s with pre-commissioning/ commissioning knowledge and an understanding of turnover systems, and procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of scheduling systems.
  • Able to generate reports from Access, XP, and other data bases.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a multi discipline team.
  • Expat experience helpful but not required.
