Representing the Owner's interests, this role provides critical leadership, assurance, and oversight across commissioning and completions phases for high-value infrastructure assets.

What are you going to do 

As Commissioning Manager, you will hold end-to-end accountability for the inspection, compliance testing, and operational handover of assets delivered through the Major Projects Capital program in the Australian region. You will guide strategy, coordinate resources, manage contractors and vendors, and ensure seamless integration into operational readiness.

This is a senior leadership role that balances technical assurance with strategic influence, ensuring that assets are delivered safe, operable, compliant, and fit for long-term sustainable operations.

Duties

  • Define client requirements and develop project-specific commissioning plans.
  • Review and approve commissioning strategies.
  • Provide input into operability and maintainability considerations.
  • Lead risk identification and management from an Owner's perspective.
  • Approve and audit commissioning documentation.
  • Witness and verify critical tests and completions milestones (MC, RFC).
  • Provide independent verification and quality oversight.
  • Act as the key interface between project teams, site operations, contractors, and vendors.
  • Coordinate Owner's team resources and ensure readiness training packages are developed.
  • Ensure effective reporting and communication across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor asset performance during commissioning.
  • Lead deficiency (punch list) resolution and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Provide input on claims and contractor performance.
  • Oversee formal acceptance, asset handover, and documentation finalisation.
  • Capture and communicate lessons learned to improve future projects.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering preferred OR a relevant trade qualification with extensive practical experience
  • 5-10+ years' experience in a senior commissioning or completions leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex commissioning scopes in major projects
  • Strong background in mechanical completion and ready-for-commissioning processes
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and vendor management capabilities
  • Effective communicator with excellent reporting skills
  • Skilled in hazard identification, risk control, and operational readiness
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on quality, safety, and compliance
  • Ability to lead problem-solving efforts and drive high-performance outcomes
  • You must be have current right to work in Australia to be considered for this role
  • Due to travel to various sites this role would be suited to candidates based South of the River
