What are you going to do 

We are seeking a Senior, commercially astute Cost Engineer with direct experience operating in a major integrated shipyard environment. The role requires an individual who can confidently lead cost discussions, defend commercial positions, and negotiate variation orders with both internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate will bring hands‑on shipyard exposure, deep understanding of shipyard cost structures, and the ability to hold their ground in high‑pressure commercial negotiations.

Key Responsibilities/Job Description

  • Lead the preparation of detailed and defensible cost estimates for shipbuilding, conversion, and offshore projects.
  • Own commercial negotiations with shipyards, including pricing discussions, variation orders, and cost reconciliations.
  • Act as a commercial focal point during engagements with a major integrated shipyard, confidently challenging assumptions where required.
  • Interpret and manage contractual scope, exclusions, and commercial risk exposure.
  • Interface effectively with project, engineering, procurement, and commercial teams to ensure alignment.
  • Provide market‑based pricing insight grounded in prior shipyard negotiation experience.
  • Identify cost risks early and proactively drive mitigation strategies.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in cost estimation, commercial, or project controls within shipbuilding or offshore construction.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating with a major integrated shipyard.
  • Proven ability to manage and defend variation orders and cost positions.
  • Strong understanding of shipyard cost drivers, pricing mechanisms, and commercial dynamics.
  • Confident communicator able to manage senior internal and external stakeholders.
