Introduction

  • Senior Geophysicist (Special Projects) with specialist knowledge of land seismic acquisition and processing. Understanding of current land and marine seismic processing algorithms, time and depth imaging, inversion, fracture and amplitude analysis.
  • Proven experience of carbonate reservoirs. Proficient in use of R5000 software suite. Excellent, proven special project management skills (technical specification, QA/QC, timing and budget) and customer focus. Very good skills in the presentation and documentation of project results.
  • Mentoring, training and advising of young geoscientists/engineers and less experienced staff. MSc or PhD Geophysics preferred.

What are you going to do 

  • Technical monitoring and QA/QC for all internal and externally sourced geophysical projects, (seismic processing and reprocessing, amplitude/AVO analysis, depth imaging, inversion).
  • Linkage between the Dukhan subsurface community and the geophysical specialists in the external technology providers.
  • Providing technical expertise and advice in the above areas to the Dukhan subsurface teams.
  • Technical specification and budgeting of special projects. Active monitoring and management of special projects so that technical QA/QC, timing and budgetary requirements are satisfied.
  • Single point of contact with third party contractors on assigned projects.
  • Communicating project status and providing regular technical peer reviews internally.
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of contractor’s geophysical capabilities.
  • Ensuring all projects are tendered and contracts awarded in accordance with procedures.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Bachelor degree in Geoscience, Engineering or equivalent.
  • 20 years’ work experience in the Oil and Gas industry, with at least 15 years of experience conducting geophysical studies/operations.
  • Specialist knowledge of land seismic acquisition and processing.
  • Experience with VSP acquisition and processing.
  • Understanding of current land and marine seismic processing algorithms, time and depth imaging, seismic inversion and amplitude/AVO analysis techniques.
  • Experience in carbonate reservoirs.
  • Proficient in use of current geophysical software applications (e.g., Landmark SeisSpace, Well Seismic Fusion, DecisionSpace, Geoprobe, Hampson Russell, etc.)
  • Excellent project management skills and customer focus.
  • A highly motivated team player with the ability to work efficiently within multidisciplinary, multi-cultural teams.
  • Must have experience mentoring less experienced staff.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with peers, less experienced staff, field staff, contractors and management
  • A willingness to maintain core skills as well as developing new areas of expertise.
  • Masters or Doctorate Degree in Geophysics
