Introduction

Senior QA/QC Inspector is responsible for independently verifying the quality of construction work performed by EPC contractors and subcontractors on utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, acting on behalf of the client to protect the long-term performance, safety, and value of the asset. This role performs field inspections, reviews contractor quality documentation, identifies nonconformances, and drives corrective actions

What are you going to do 

Responsibilities

  • Quality Inspection & Verification
    • Perform daily field inspections of civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical construction activities across Solar PV and BESS scopes.
    • Verify installed work complies with approved drawings, specifications, codes, and manufacturer installation requirements.
    • Inspect installation of PV modules, racking, trackers, MV/DC cabling, terminations, and grounding systems for conformance to design and torque specifications.
    • Verify inverter, transformer, and BESS enclosure installation, and inspect substation and collector system construction, including foundations, structures, and electrical terminations.
    • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections and witness contractor testing activities.
  • Nonconformance & Corrective Action Management
    • Identify, document, and track nonconformances and quality deficiencies through resolution.
    • Issue field observation reports, deficiency notices, and punch-list items to EPC contractors.
    • Verify corrective actions are implemented and re-inspect completed work for closeout.
    • Support root-cause analysis for recurring or high-impact quality issues, and escalate unresolved or significant issues to Construction Management
  • Testing & Commissioning Support
    • Support commissioning readiness inspections and pre-energization walkdowns.
    • Witness electrical testing, including continuity, megger, and functional testing, as applicable.
    • Coordinate punch-list closeout prior to mechanical completion, substantial completion, and COD, and support resolution of quality-related issues identified during commissioning.
  • Reporting & Documentation
    • Maintain detailed inspection records, photographs, and quality logs for all inspected work.
    • Review contractor quality control (QC) documentation, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and test reports for completeness and accuracy.
    • Prepare daily and weekly inspection reports summarizing progress, findings, and open items.
    • Populate and maintain quality records in Procore and other project management systems, and support development of turnover and closeout documentation packages.
  • Contractor & Vendor Coordination
    • Coordinate inspection activities and hold points with EPC contractors and subcontractors, and attend quality, progress, and coordination meetings.
    • Review contractor Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and witness critical hold-point inspections.
    • Support vendor and factory quality reviews as needed, and provide quality performance input for contractor evaluations.
  • Safety & Cross-Functional Support
    • Follow all site safety requirements and regulatory safety standards while conducting inspections; report unsafe conditions or practices observed in the field.
    • Coordinate with Engineering to resolve design or constructability issues identified during inspection.
    • Support Construction Management with quality input for schedule and risk discussions.
  • Special Projects and Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned, including regular and ad-hoc reporting.
  • Supervision of Others: Junior Quality Inspector.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 5-7 years of quality inspection experience in industrial, utility, or renewable energy construction.
  • 2-3 years of experience specific to utility-scale Solar PV or BESS construction preferred.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and electrical schematics.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • OSHA 10 certification required. OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and other applicable electrical and construction codes and standards.
  • Familiarity with Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) processes and quality management systems.
  • Certifications such as NACE, ICC, or other relevant quality/inspection credentials are a plus.
  • Experience using Procore or similar project/quality management software.

  • 75-100% travel to project sites required; extended site assignments are typical during peak construction and commissioning periods.
  • Field-based role with exposure to heavy equipment, active construction zones, and energized electrical equipment.
  • Work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols is mandatory.
