Introduction

Brunel has an exciting long-term contract opportunity for a Project Accountant supporting our client who is a leading global mining and metals company.

This contract position will work from home with occasional site visits to North America.

What are you going to do 

Capital Project Accounting

  • Monitor and analyze project costs, commitments, accruals, and forecasts.
  • Review project expenditures for proper accounting treatment, including capital versus operating expense classification.
  • Assist with asset capitalization models, asset group development, and project closeout activities as required.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycles.
  • Prepare monthly project financial reports, variance analyses, and management reporting packages.
  • Support project budget-to-actual reviews and provide explanations for significant variances.
  • Coordinate with Project Controls and Operations teams to validate project costs and forecasts.

Contractor Payment Administration

  • Coordinate contractor payment application (PayApp) processing and approval workflows.
  • Review contractor invoices and payment applications for compliance with contract terms.
  • Collaborate with Contracts, Procurement, and Project Controls personnel to resolve discrepancies.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of accounting experience.
  • Experience with project accounting, capital projects, construction accounting, or cost accounting.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (SAP preferred).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large capital construction or mining projects.
  • Knowledge of fixed asset accounting and capitalization requirements.
  • Experience with Aconex, SharePoint, Power BI, or related project management/reporting tools.
  • CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification preferred.
