Introduction

Brunel PNG are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our dynamic team supporting an operational open pit mining project. This role is integral to ensuring safe and effective geotechnical monitoring and ground support throughout mining operations. What are you going to do 

As a Geotechnical Engineer with Brunel International, you will be responsible for the installation, monitoring, and management of geotechnical instrumentation during the mining of the pit. Your key duties will include ensuring monitoring instrumentation is installed correctly, managing procurement and calibration processes, and coordinating survey pickups of instrumentation locations. You will oversee the collection and uploading of monitoring and photogrammetry data to the site database, conduct daily reviews of monitoring data, and prepare weekly status reports for stakeholders.

You will also be responsible for reviewing and updating Trigger Action Response Plans (TARPs) and monitoring plans, ensuring depressurisation holes are drilled and completed according to design, and assisting the Design Engineer's site lead with data collection and collation alongside other related tasks. Your role will require strong technical acumen, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Membership of a recognised professional organisation is highly regarded
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in an operational open pit mine environment
  • Practical experience with civil works and ground support installation
  • Proven ability to review slope monitoring data and interpret results relating to slope stability
  • Sound technical report writing skills
  • Strong organisational skills with experience in procurement, tracking, storage, and calibration of instrumentation
  • Proficient in data management and reporting
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team
