Introduction

We are seeking a highly capable DevOps Engineer (Build & Release) to take ownership of the build and release capability within a modern engineering environment. This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, DevOps and operational delivery, ensuring software deployments are automated, reliable and executed safely across multiple environments.

What are you going to do 

As the DevOps Engineer (Build & Release), you will take ownership of the build and release lifecycle and drive improvements across automation, deployment reliability and release governance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, maintain and optimise CI/CD pipelines supporting scalable and reliable software delivery.

  • Manage build and deployment processes across multiple development, test and production environments.

  • Lead complex deployment activities including major releases, upgrades, hotfixes and emergency patches.

  • Implement automated release processes that reduce manual effort and operational risk.

  • Improve deployment tooling, infrastructure configuration and environment management.

  • Introduce guardrails that ensure compliance, traceability and repeatability across releases.

  • Identify systemic release risks and implement preventative controls.

  • Conduct environment readiness assessments and deployment planning.

  • Develop rollback strategies, contingency plans and recovery mechanisms.

  • Collaborate with development, QA, DevOps and operations teams to ensure release readiness.

  • Analyse deployment metrics such as deployment frequency, failure rate and cycle time to drive continuous improvement.

  • Lead post-release reviews and implement improvements to strengthen release reliability and delivery performance.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Essential:

  • Strong experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab, Jenkins or similar).

  • Solid understanding of DevOps practices, infrastructure-as-code and automated deployment workflows.

  • Experience managing build and release pipelines across complex enterprise systems.

  • Knowledge of modern development practices including Agile, trunk-based development and branching strategies.

  • Experience working with cloud platforms and modern deployment strategies such as blue/green or canary releases.

  • Strong troubleshooting capability and ability to resolve deployment issues under pressure.
