What are you going to do 

Brunel is recruiting Controls Engineers to work in Houston, TX with our major Oil and Gas client.

The Controls Engineer will support validation and data quality initiatives for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and control systems in a large, regulated industrial environment.

This role focuses on:

  • Digital Cause & Effect (DiCE) automated metrics table population
  • Cause & Effect (C&E) documentation validation
  • Control system tag validation

Responsibilities:

  • Populate and maintain automated DiCE metrics tables using established templates and validation rules
  • Clean, organize, and transform large datasets to ensure accurate reporting
  • Perform consistency checks across multiple data sources
  • Track progress against validation milestones and report status to project leads
  • Perform tag-by-tag comparisons between C&E documents and reference sources (e.g., instrument lists, I/O lists, logic narratives)
  • Validate SIS and control system tags for completeness, accuracy, and consistency
  • Execute repeatable validation checks across multiple document sets
  • Support large-scale validation efforts
  • Escalate unresolved discrepancies to senior Controls or SIS engineers
  • Provide clear summaries of impacts along with supporting documentation

Identify discrepancies such as:

  • Missing tags
  • Naming inconsistencies
  • Duplicate entries
  • Incorrect associations
  • Document findings in structured tracking tools with clear supporting evidence

Essential skills and knowledge 

Requirements:

  • Strong Excel and data analysis skills (experience with large datasets)
  • Ability to perform repetitive validation tasks with high accuracy
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Clear written communication for issue tracking and reporting

Prior exposure to:

  • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • Control systems
  • DCS/PLC environments
  • Instrumentation systems.
