Introduction

We are seeking an experienced Hydrogeologist to provide technical leadership and groundwater expertise in support of our Western Canadian operations. This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex hydrogeological challenges across large-scale in situ oil sands assets while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, regulators, and industry-leading environmental professionals.

What are you going to do 

  • Assess and manage groundwater-related risks associated with resource well drilling operations.
  • Support the design, implementation, and interpretation of groundwater monitoring programs for large in situ oil sands developments.
  • Lead and review groundwater contamination assessment and investigation programs.
  • Evaluate surface casing vent flow fluids through hydrochemical and isotopic analyses.
  • Support the development, licensing, operation, and reporting of shallow groundwater supply systems.
  • Conduct domestic water well investigations and respond to stakeholder concerns.
  • Provide technical support related to deep well disposal activities.
  • Interpret hydrogeological and environmental data to support operational and regulatory decision-making.
  • Collaborate with regulators, consultants, Indigenous communities, and internal stakeholders.
  • Support environmental permitting activities and ongoing site environmental management programs.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, regulatory submissions, and supporting documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth Sciences, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional designation as a P.Geo. or P.Eng. in good standing within Alberta.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive hydrogeological experience.
  • Strong understanding of groundwater systems, monitoring programs, and environmental assessment methodologies.
  • Excellent technical writing, data interpretation, and communication skills.
  • Experience working within resource development, energy, mining, or related industrial sectors.
  • Working knowledge of Alberta environmental regulations and regulatory processes.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting oil sands or conventional energy operations.
  • Background in hydrogeologic mapping, groundwater modeling, and hydrogeochemistry.
  • Experience with regulatory applications, environmental impact assessments, and environmental compliance programs.
  • Familiarity with groundwater data management and interpretation tools.

Essential skills and knowledge 

The ideal candidate is a Senior Hydrogeologist with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience supporting groundwater management, environmental assessment, and regulatory compliance programs within the energy, mining, resource development, or related industrial sectors. They possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth Sciences, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline, along with a P.Geo. or P.Eng. designation in good standing within Alberta.
The successful candidate is a collaborative professional who can effectively engage with multidisciplinary teams, regulators, consultants, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders. Experience supporting oil sands or conventional energy operations, hydrogeologic mapping, groundwater modeling, hydrogeochemistry, environmental impact assessments, and environmental compliance programs would be considered strong assets.
