Introduction

Join a highly technical Life of Mine Studies team supporting a major underground copper project progressing through Pre-Feasibility. You'll work across underground mine planning, scheduling and Deswik, with exposure to complex caving methods and long-term development. This is an opportunity to take ownership of challenging technical work, influence future mine plans and build specialist experience on a globally significant project.

What are you going to do

This is an opportunity for an experienced underground Mining Engineer to join a highly technical Life of Mine Studies team, supporting a globally significant, large-scale underground copper project as it progresses through Pre-Feasibility.

The position will suit someone with a strong background in underground metalliferous mining, mine planning and scheduling, who enjoys solving complex technical problems and wants to take greater ownership of long-term planning and studies work.

The project involves technically complex underground mining and caving methods, providing the successful candidate with exposure to a highly specialised mining environment. Previous block cave or caving experience would be highly regarded; however, it is not essential. The priority is finding a technically capable underground Mining Engineer with strong planning, scheduling and Deswik experience who can successfully transition their skills into the caving environment.

This is not a traditional production-focused Senior Mining Engineer position. The role is centred around long-term technical planning, scheduling, mine design, studies and evaluation of future mining options.

Working closely with the Principal Mining Engineer, Studies Manager and wider technical team, you will:

  • Develop, review and optimise underground mine plans and schedules.
  • Undertake Life of Mine (LOM), long-term and strategic mine planning.
  • Develop and assess underground development and production schedules.
  • Use Deswik, particularly Deswik.Sched and Deswik.CAD, to develop and evaluate mine plans, designs and schedules.
  • Support the development of technically achievable and commercially robust Life of Mine strategies.
  • Undertake underground mine design and development planning.
  • Evaluate alternative mining sequences, development strategies and production scenarios.
  • Contribute to project work as the operation progresses through Pre-Feasibility and future study phases.
  • Participate in technical studies, trade-off studies and option assessments.
  • Analyse technical information and translate findings into clear engineering recommendations.
  • Work across mine planning, design, scheduling, infrastructure and other technical workstreams.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure mine plans integrate effectively with broader project requirements.
  • Review planning assumptions, constraints, risks and opportunities.
  • Support the development of capital development strategies and associated schedules.
  • Identify opportunities to improve mine plans, schedules and project value.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports and presentations.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Work with internal technical specialists, operational teams, consultants and contractors.
  • Take ownership of complex technical work and deliver outcomes with a high degree of independence.
  • Challenge assumptions where appropriate and contribute to continuous improvement across mine planning and studies.
  • Provide technical input and guidance to other engineers within the team.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, technically focused team environment.

Essential skills and knowledge

The successful candidate will be a technically strong Mining Engineer with significant underground metalliferous mining experience and a strong background in mine planning and scheduling.

You will ideally bring:

  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years' relevant mining engineering experience, with significant underground exposure.
  • Strong hands-on underground mine planning and scheduling experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of Deswik, ideally Deswik.Sched and Deswik.CAD.
  • Experience in underground mine design, development planning and scheduling.
  • Exposure to Life of Mine (LOM), long-term or strategic mine planning.
  • Experience within underground gold, copper, base metals or other metalliferous operations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical engineering capability.
  • Ability to independently deliver complex technical work.
  • Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to take ownership of technical outcomes.
  • Have full Australian Work Rights with no restrictions

Experience across mining studies, Scoping, PFS, Feasibility, mine expansion, trade-off studies or scenario analysis will be highly regarded but is not essential.

Candidates do not need to come from a dedicated studies background. Strong underground planning, scheduling and Deswik capability is the priority.

What we offer

  • Exposure to a world-class, large-scale underground copper operation.
  • Involvement during an important Pre-Feasibility stage of project development.
  • Complex underground mine planning and scheduling.
  • Exposure to specialist caving methods.
  • Life of Mine and strategic planning experience.
  • Challenging technical studies and scenario evaluation.
  • The opportunity to work alongside experienced underground mining specialists.
  • Significant ownership of technical work.
  • Exposure to senior technical and project stakeholders.
  • Long-term project visibility.
  • International project exposure.
