Introduction

We are partnering with a global oil & gas business to source a Senior Environmental Advisor - CCS for a major Perth-based carbon capture and storage project. This specialist contract role will support offshore approvals, sea dumping permits, and preparation of a CO₂ sequestration permit application under the Environment Protection (Sea Dumping) Act 1981.

What are you going to do 

Working within the Environment Approvals & Compliance function, you will take a lead role in preparing high-quality regulatory documentation for a significant CCS project. You will act as the primary author for the sea dumping permit application, integrating technical inputs from across subsurface, engineering, environmental, and project teams.

This role requires someone who can operate confidently in a complex operator environment, manage competing stakeholder inputs, and deliver clear, robust documentation aligned with relevant legislation and guidance.
You will be a senior environmental approvals professional with a strong background in offshore petroleum, CCS, major energy, or resources projects. You will bring the technical credibility and communication skills needed to lead a complex permit application and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of a CO₂ sequestration sea dumping permit application as the primary author.
  • Ensure the application is aligned with applicable legislation, regulatory guidance, and broader project approvals.
  • Coordinate technical inputs from engineering, subsurface, environmental, and project stakeholders.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the sea dumping permit workplan and delivery schedule.
  • Support consistency across related regulatory applications and approval pathways.
  • Participate in internal and external stakeholder engagement activities as required.
  • Maintain a strong focus on health, safety, environmental protection, and compliance.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Skills and Experience Required

  • Demonstrated experience preparing and securing complex sea dumping permits for offshore petroleum or carbon capture and storage activities.
  • Strong understanding of the Environment Protection (Sea Dumping) Act 1981.
  • Knowledge of Australian and international regulatory frameworks relevant to CO₂ sequestration.
  • Familiarity with the London Protocol, including guidance relating to CO₂ streams for disposal into sub-seabed geological formations.
  • Experience working in an operator environment and coordinating multidisciplinary technical inputs.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, planning, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality regulatory documentation within tight timeframes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Marine Science, Geoscience, or a related discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in environmental management, environmental law, carbon capture and storage, or a related field will be highly regarded.
