Senior Bridge Lead

Introduction

Brunel is currently seeking an experienced Senior Bridge Lead to join our EPCM client's team in Mississauga, Ontario. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and managing a variety of small to large-scale, high-profile public structural engineering projects, with a focus on the design and delivery of bridges, overpasses, and related infrastructure within contract delivery environments.

The role will be challenging, interesting, and varied, offering significant opportunities for skill set and career development. You will be required to work within a growing team environment, carrying out feasibility, assessment, design, project engineering/management, and construction support services across a wide range of bridge and structural engineering assignments.

Responsibilities

• Planning, organizing, and working with technical groups in the delivery of project requirements.
• Lead and manage a dedicated bridge team of approximately 15 staff, including engineers, designers, and technical professionals, providing mentorship, technical direction, and performance oversight.
• Design of bridges and facilities for public and private infrastructure including roadways, heavy rail, light rail, pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, foundations, and buildings.
• Manage and mentor multidisciplinary project teams, providing leadership, technical direction, and fostering a collaborative environment.
• Involvement in project management of structural engineering projects, particularly within design-build and alternative contract delivery models (DB, DBF, P3).
• Ensure projects are well managed and controlled, and meet required performance, safety and business standards.
• Act as a technical lead and engineer of record for bridge projects, providing expert guidance on all technical aspects of the design process.
• Develop, review, and approve technical designs, reports, and specifications for a variety of projects.
• Prepare construction cost estimates, ensuring accurate budgeting and financial management throughout project execution.
• Support delivery of projects from pursuit and proposal stages through detailed design and construction, working closely with contractors and construction teams.
• Support and contribute to strategic initiatives, and long-term business growth goals.
• Lead business development activities, including proposal preparation, client presentations, and identifying new project opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with Ontario transportation design standards, including familiarity with MTO specifications, RAQS requirements, and contract delivery expectations.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive team environment, ensuring adherence to company policies and safety standards.
• Mentoring and development of technical staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from a recognized and accredited University in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.
• Eng. registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
• Minimum 10 years of proven experience in structural engineering and software design, with a focus on bridge design and project management.
• Experience with Ontario Transportation design standards, specifications, and deliverable requirements for bridge and roadway projects.
• Strong technical expertise in bridge design, including structural analysis, material selection, and construction techniques.
• Excellent communicator and skilled problem solver with a commitment to thrive in a proactive organization where client service is paramount.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information to clients, stakeholders, and team members.
• Demonstrated ability to support and contribute to a positive team environment.
• Business development experience and a demonstrated ability to build and maintain client relationships is highly desirable.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
