SHIP HULL PAINTER
The Hull Painter is responsible for surface preparation, application of protective coatings, and painting of vessel hulls to prevent corrosion, fouling, and damage, while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform surface preparation activities including blasting, grinding, washing, scraping, and sanding of vessel hullsApply marine coatings such as primers, anti-corrosive paints, anti-fouling coatings, and top coats according to specificationsMix, prepare, and apply paints and coatings using spray guns, rollers, and brushesFollow coating procedures, thickness requirements, and drying/curing times as per technical data sheetsInspect painted surfaces for defects such as runs, sags, pinholes, or uneven coverage and carry out touch-ups as requiredOperate and maintain painting and surface preparation equipment safelyComply with all safety regulations, permits, and PPE requirements (e.g. working at height, confined spaces)Follow environmental controls related to paint waste, solvents, and blasting residuesWork closely with supervisors, QC inspectors, and other trades to meet project timelinesMaintain housekeeping standards in work areasReport equipment issues, material shortages, or safety concerns to supervisorsMinimum Secondary education or equivalent (preferred)Certification in industrial/marine painting or blasting (advantage)Valid safety certifications (e.g. Working at Height, Confined Space – if applicable)Minimum 2–5 years of experience in hull painting or marine/industrial paintingExperience working in shipyards, dry docks, or offshore environments is preferredSkills & CompetenciesKnowledge of marine coatings, paint systems, and surface preparation standardsAbility to read and follow paint specifications and work instructionsFamiliarity with spray painting and abrasive blasting equipmentGood attention to detail and quality standardsPhysically fit and able to work at height, in confined spaces, and in marine environmentsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamSafety & Working ConditionsWork may involve heights, confined spaces, and exposure to fumes and noiseUse of full PPE is mandatoryShift work, overtime, or offshore assignments may be requiredBrunel International S.E.A Pte.
