Introduction

Brunel is recruiting a Senior or Principal Marine Systems Engineer for a contractor position in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The successful candidate will deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective Marine Systems solutions. This is not a Lead Engineer or Naval Design role. Applicants must have relevant Marine Systems, shipboard systems and EPC experience.

What are you going to do 

The Senior / Principal Marine Systems Engineer will be responsible for delivering engineering activities and technical solutions within the Marine Systems discipline.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Selecting appropriate engineering methods and procedures and optimising designs within the Marine Systems discipline.
  • Ensuring engineering activities comply with project specifications, international codes, company and industry standards and applicable regulations.
  • Planning and completing discipline activities and deliverables within agreed timeframes and budgets.
  • Supporting the delivery of the discipline Scope of Work in accordance with contractual and internal requirements.
  • Undertaking Marine Systems engineering studies and technical analysis.
  • Working with and reviewing P&IDs and PFDs/Principal Flow Diagrams.
  • Undertaking and reviewing relevant hydrodynamic calculations.
  • Providing engineering input relating to shipboard marine systems.
  • Supporting engineering activities relating to energy transportation.
  • Providing technical input relating to shipboard-based system maintenance and operation.
  • Supporting detailed design activities within the Marine Systems discipline.
  • Supporting package engineering and manufacturing activities where applicable.
  • Contributing to reliability, operability and safety activities.
  • Supporting subcontracting and site engineering activities where required.
  • Contributing to Hazards and Effects Management and Formal Safety Assessment activities.
  • Managing technical interfaces with other disciplines and relevant third parties, including clients, subcontractors, vendors, classification societies and regulatory bodies.
  • Capturing lessons learned and assessing the impact of engineering changes within and across project system boundaries.
  • At Principal level, acting as Principal for an assigned scope of work and/or as a Technical Expert or Engineering Method Authority where applicable.

Essential skills and knowledge 

The successful candidate will be an experienced Senior or Principal Marine Systems Engineer with:

  • An Engineer Diploma in a relevant discipline.
  • 10-15 years of Oil & Gas industry experience.
  • Strong experience in Marine Systems Engineering and shipboard marine systems.
  • Previous EPC experience, which is required.
  • Experience undertaking Marine Systems studies and technical analysis.
  • Knowledge of P&IDs, PFDs/Principal Flow Diagrams and relevant hydrodynamic calculations.
  • Experience in detailed design, package engineering and manufacturing.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and managing technical interfaces.
  • Knowledge of shipboard system maintenance and operation.
  • Understanding of reliability, operability, safety, subcontracting, site engineering and planning.
  • Knowledge of Hazards and Effects Management and Formal Safety Assessment.

Candidates primarily focused on Naval Design or Naval Architecture, without substantial Marine Systems experience, will not be suitable.

Candidates must be willing to relocate to Rotterdam and attend the office three days per week.
