Job Description

We are seeking a Machinery Engineer / Machinery Specialist to provide advanced engineering support for rotating equipment within a large-scale refinery and petrochemical operating environment.

The role is responsible for supporting plant operations through technical analysis, troubleshooting, reliability improvement initiatives, equipment strategy development, and engineering recommendations for critical rotating equipment. This is an engineering advisory role and is not focused on routine maintenance execution or repair supervision.

  • Act as the technical focal point for machinery engineering matters supporting refinery and petrochemical operations.
  • Provide engineering support for the operation, reliability, performance, and lifecycle management of critical rotating equipment.
  • Lead complex troubleshooting activities and perform Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for machinery-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain equipment reliability and maintenance strategies to improve plant availability and operational performance.
  • Conduct machinery performance evaluations, technical studies, condition monitoring reviews, and equipment health assessments.
  • Review engineering proposals, vendor documentation, equipment specifications, and technical recommendations for machinery upgrades and modifications.
  • Provide technical support during turnarounds, equipment outages, start-ups, commissioning activities, and brownfield modification projects.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, process, instrumentation, and electrical engineering teams to identify and implement sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations to business stakeholders and support operational decision-making.
  • The position will provide engineering support for critical refinery and petrochemical rotating equipment including: Centrifugal compressors, Reciprocating compressors, Gas turbines, Steam turbines, Centrifugal pumps, Dry gas seal systems, Auxiliary rotating equipment and associated support systems
  • Focus areas include: Machinery diagnostics and troubleshooting, Reliability engineering, Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Condition monitoring and performance assessment, Equipment strategy development, Machinery lifecycle management, Equipment upgrades and debottlenecking initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Master's Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Management, Asset Management, or Reliability Engineering will be advantageous.
  • Minimum 20 years of experience in rotating equipment engineering within refinery and petrochemical operating facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting critical rotating equipment in a live operating plant environment.
  • Experience in machinery reliability, asset engineering, condition monitoring, equipment strategy development, and failure investigations.
  • Practical experience supporting compressors, gas turbines, steam turbines, pumps, dry gas seals, and associated systems.
  • Exposure to brownfield modification projects, turnarounds, reliability programmes, and equipment lifecycle management.
  • Strong understanding of API standards and industry best practices related to rotating equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to translate technical findings into practical business recommendations.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering and operations teams.
  • Capability to provide technical leadership and specialist engineering support for refinery and petrochemical assets.
