Introduction

Brunel is currently seeking a Commissioning Planning Lead on behalf of our mining client in Vancouver with global site travel. The Commissioning Planning Lead is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining commissioning schedules across multiple capital projects, ensuring alignment with overall execution plans, construction milestones, and system and subsystem turnover strategies.

Reporting to the Director of Commissioning, this role provides direct planning support to project teams while also reviewing and guiding EPC contractor planners to ensure commissioning deliverables are accurate, realistic, and aligned with project objectives. The successful candidate will bring strong scheduling expertise, a deep understanding of commissioning processes, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced project environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed commissioning schedules in Primavera P6 (or equivalent)
  • Integrate commissioning sequences, system boundaries, and turnover milestones into overall project schedules
  • Track progress against KPIs, critical paths, and commissioning readiness milestones
  • Conduct scheduling risk assessments and provide mitigation strategies
  • Perform float, multiple float path, delay, and time impact analysis
  • Monitor performance against baseline schedules and provide regular forecasting
  • Review EPC contractor commissioning schedules for logic quality, resource loading, sequencing, and feasibility
  • Provide feedback and corrections to EPC planners to ensure compliance with commissioning standards
  • Validate EPC progress updates and ensure accurate reporting
  • Coordinate with construction planners to align system and subsystem handover and mechanical completion
  • Support development of commissioning and system completion plans
  • Ensure commissioning deliverables (ITRs, turnover packages, subsystem boundaries) align with schedule logic
  • Interface with commissioning, construction, project management, and operations teams
  • Facilitate weekly commissioning planning meetings
  • Prepare dashboards, progress summaries, look-ahead schedules, and management reports
  • Support implementation of commissioning procedures, standards, and best practices
  • Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain schedule governance to ensure consistency across EPC contractors and internal teams
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

  • Experience in heavy industrial construction and commissioning/start-up planning and scheduling
  • Experience with construction and commissioning of mega projects
  • Skilled in scheduling software (Primavera, MS Project, etc.)
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, business or fifteen (15) years of related experience in industrial project planning (mining preferred)
  • OR
  • High School diploma or GED with ten (10) + years of experience in industrial project planning (mining preferred)
  • Must be a proficient user of cloud-based Primavera P6 Scheduling software
  • Possess excellent organizational skills
  • Possess strong communication skills and the ability to train others
