Introduction

We are seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership, engineering governance and discipline oversight across a continuous pipeline of small and large mining and minerals processing projects.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role will lead mechanical engineering work across the full project lifecycle, from early concept development and feasibility studies through to detailed design, construction support, commissioning and operations. The position will suit a senior mechanical engineering professional who can balance technical detail, client expectations, project delivery requirements and team development.

This is a key leadership role within the business, with responsibility for ensuring mechanical engineering deliverables are safe, compliant, technically robust and aligned with client and project requirements. The position also plays an important role in mentoring developing engineers and supporting the ongoing growth and capability of the engineering team.

About this role

  • Deliver mechanical design packages: calculations, reports, specifications, drawing inputs
  • Design and review equipment and systems for mining and heavy industrial environments
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, client specifications and statutory requirements
  • Coordinate interfaces across SMP, Structural, Electrical and Design/Drafting teams
  • Conduct design reviews, checking and verification prior to issue
  • Provide construction support: RFIs, site queries and design clarifications
  • Identify risks early and drive practical, constructable solution

Is this you?

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, recognised by Engineers Australia or equivalent
  • Considerable experience in a relevant mechanical engineering field
  • Experience within mining, minerals processing or plant design environments
  • Proven ability to lead and manage engineering professionals
  • Advanced understanding of statutory requirements, industry regulations and HSE practices
  • Strong practical application of mechanical engineering design theories, principles and practices
  • Advanced technical expertise across mechanical engineering deliverables
  • Ability to rapidly understand project, client and scope-specific requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Advanced Microsoft Office capability

  • Site experience during construction, commissioning or operations
  • Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Australia
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Strong interpersonal, stakeholder management and presentation skills
