Introduction

Brunel has partnered with a global autonomous systems company deploying real-world autonomy across mining, automotive and logistics, on a permanent opportunity for Autonomy Product Specialist. This is a site-based role supporting autonomous vehicle operations in a live environment. The role operates on an 8/6 roster in New South Wales, open to candidates based in NSW or Queensland.

About this role

Seeking an Autonomy Product Specialist to work on customer sites, acting as the first line of defence for issues across the autonomy stack. You will analyse logs, simulation outputs and real-world data to identify system failures, separate signal from noise, and ensure issues are clearly understood and resolved quickly.

This role sits between engineering and site operations, working closely with operators, customer stakeholders and engineering teams to maintain system performance and reliability.

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as the technical point of contact for on-site issues across the autonomy system
  • Triage failures from site operations, logs and simulation data, separating real defects from edge cases or operator behaviour
  • Reproduce issues using log replay or simulation and isolate the failing component within the autonomy stack
  • Raise clear, well-structured bug reports and manage issues through to resolution
  • Own and maintain the bug queue, prioritising and escalating issues where required
  • Communicate outcomes and timelines back to site teams and customer stakeholders
  • Work closely with engineering teams across perception, planning, controls and platform systems
  • Support regression testing, validation and verification of fixes before deployment
  • Travel to site as required to observe issues firsthand and gather data

Is this you?

  • Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Robotics or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Experience in QA, test or triage on complex systems, ideally within robotics, autonomous vehicles, automotive or similar
  • Experience working directly with customers or external stakeholders, managing issues and communicating clearly under pressure
  • Strong debugging skills, with the ability to analyse logs and trace issues back to root cause
  • Comfortable working in Linux environments, with scripting experience in Python or Bash
  • Experience using Jira or similar tools to manage bug reports and issue tracking
  • Familiarity with Git and modern development workflows
  • Ability to work with large volumes of real-world data, separating signal from noise and prioritising effectively
  • Willingness to travel to site and work in a live, site-based environment

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with ROS, ROS 2 or similar robotics frameworks
  • Experience with log replay tools, simulation environments or robotics testing workflows
  • Exposure to mining, construction or heavy equipment environments
  • Experience working with sensor data such as lidar, radar, cameras or GPS/RTK
