Introduction

We're hiring an Engineering Assurance Engineer for our global mining client to join their team! You will be responsible for validating engineering progress, auditing design deliverables, and ensuring engineering consultants are meeting project requirements, technical standards, and quality expectations. This is a 3-6-month contract opportunity and can be based in Saskatoon or Toronto.

What are you going to do 

  • Conduct Engineering Design Review (EDR) audits to validate reported engineering progress and confirm completion status of design packages.
  • Perform spot reviews of technical documentation supporting 30%, 60%, and 90% engineering design reviews.
  • Verify that engineering action items and review comments have been appropriately addressed and closed out.
  • Audit engineering deliverables including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), design calculations, specifications, and associated documentation.
  • Review engineering management processes to confirm compliance with project procedures, quality requirements, and ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  • Assess engineering deliverables following Material Take-Off (MTO) issuance to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Audit Issued for Construction (IFC) deliverables to verify alignment with project requirements and approved design intent.
  • Review 3D models and engineering documentation to confirm design information has been accurately translated into deliverables and quantity outputs.
  • Validate traceability between engineering design documents, 3D models, and resulting MTO quantities.
  • Evaluate contractor and engineering consultant deliverables for technical quality and compliance with owner standards.
  • Participate in design review workshops and technical assurance reviews with project stakeholders.
  • Prepare audit reports, findings, recommendations, and corrective action tracking documentation.
  • Support the owner's engineering team by providing additional technical review capacity during peak project periods.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering, project delivery, EPCM, owner's engineering, or technical quality roles.
  • Experience reviewing multidisciplinary engineering packages across infrastructure, utilities, industrial, mining, or large capital projects.
  • Strong understanding of engineering design review processes including 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC stages.
  • Experience reviewing technical documentation including PFDs, P&IDs, SLDs, drawings, specifications, calculations, and 3D models.
  • Familiarity with Material Take-Off (MTO) development and quantity verification processes.
  • Knowledge of engineering quality management systems and ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
  • Ability to assess design maturity, completeness, and compliance with project standards.
  • Strong technical writing and audit reporting skills.
  • Previous experience supporting large mining, industrial, infrastructure, or energy projects considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and provide objective technical assessments on behalf of the owner.
