Introduction

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Principal Structural Engineer to join a well-established and highly regarded engineering consultancy based in Bunbury.

This is more than a traditional senior engineering position. The successful Principal Structural Engineer will take a leadership role within a small, established engineering team, working closely with the Managing Director and playing a key role in the continued growth of the business.

What are you going to do 

You will take the lead across a diverse range of structural engineering projects throughout the South West and wider WA, with responsibilities spanning design, inspections, reporting, project delivery and technical leadership.Your work will include:

  • Structural design and documentation across residential, commercial, industrial and government projects
  • New structures, additions and alterations
  • Structural assessments, inspections and remedial works
  • Civil works including retaining walls, drainage and earthworks
  • Temporary works design and certification
  • Contract administration, QA and construction support
  • Site inspections and responding to RFIs and technical queries
  • Reviewing and checking structural documentation
  • Working closely with the drafting team to deliver high-quality documentation
  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Managing smaller engineering projects, including quoting and invoicing
  • Liaising directly with clients, builders, architects and other stakeholders

Essential skills and knowledge

We are looking for an experienced structural engineer who is confident taking ownership of projects and providing technical leadership. Ideally, you will have:

  • Extensive structural engineering/design experience
  • A relevant Civil, Structural or Building Engineering qualification recognised by Engineers Australia
  • MIEAust membership
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Standards including AS1170, AS3600, AS4100, AS1684 and AS1720
  • Strong hands-on structural design experience
  • Experience with SPACE GASS - highly desirable
  • Experience with Inducta SLB or similar software is advantageous
  • Experience across steel and reinforced concrete structures
  • Strong report writing and technical communication skills
  • Experience with structural inspections, assessments and remedial works
  • Previous experience mentoring or leading junior engineers
  • Strong client and stakeholder management skills
  • A valid Australian driver's licence
  • A White Card
  • Full working rights in Australia
