Introduction

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mine Engineer - Open Pit to join a growing mining operation in the Goldfields.

This is a key technical and operational position responsible for the design, planning and optimisation of open pit mining operations. The successful candidate will work closely with senior management and multidisciplinary teams to support safe, efficient and sustainable mining outcomes.

What are you going to do 

  • Design and optimise open pit mining operations, including pit geometry, extraction sequencing and mine layouts
  • Develop and implement mine plans that maximise resource recovery while maintaining safety and environmental standards
  • Support geotechnical risk management and slope stability strategies across active mining areas
  • Lead mine engineering projects from concept through to completion, including technical scope, budgets, timelines and delivery
  • Collaborate with geology, production, maintenance and other technical teams to achieve operational targets
  • Monitor mining productivity and performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Ensure mining activities comply with relevant Australian legislation, safety requirements, environmental standards and company policies
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to the development of the wider technical team
  • Conduct engineering reviews and audits to identify operational risks and opportunities to improve performance
  • Contribute to feasibility studies, optimisation work and strategic planning for future mining operations and capital investments

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Significant experience in open pit mining operations, with strong hands-on experience in mine design and planning
  • Proven experience with pit optimisation, mine sequencing and geotechnical principles
  • Strong knowledge of mining software for pit design, mine modelling and production scheduling
  • Experience delivering engineering projects and technical initiatives from concept through to implementation
  • Sound understanding of Australian mining regulations, safety standards and environmental requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work autonomously and make sound technical decisions
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and supporting junior engineering personnel
  • Professional membership with Engineers Australia or an equivalent professional body is highly regarded
  • Current Australian driver's licence
  • Willingness to undertake site-based fieldwork as required
