Introduction

Brunel is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, and execution of electrical infrastructure projects. This position with be in Vancouver for 4 weeks and then 1 week working from home. Single status accommodations will be provided in Vancouver for non-local candidates.

What are you going to do 

  • Lead the development and project management of substation designs, project layouts, mining plant electrical systems, transmission lines, and distribution line designs.
  • Support cross‑functional engineering groups through all phases of project development and execution.
  • Identify and evaluate new substation sites through desktop analysis and on‑site field visits with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and review scopes of work, one‑line and three‑line diagrams, electrical layouts, panel layouts, evaluations, and engineering standards drawings.
  • Act as a senior electrical project manager for multiple concurrent projects in coordination with the Operations Project Management team.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert and primary utility interface for assigned projects, supporting interconnection and operations groups.
  • Ensure due diligence, engineering reviews, constructability reviews, and technical submittals are completed in support of substation, project engineering, development engineering, and interconnection teams.
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of major electrical equipment suppliers and contribute to RFP evaluations for owner‑furnished equipment.
  • Develop and implement optimization and process‑improvement tools, including standard drawings, calculation sheets, tracking tools, and workflows.
  • Interface with engineering, project management, and operations teams to ensure timely and complete transfer of technical deliverables through commissioning and commercial operation.
  • Participate in site visits to support site evaluation, suitability assessments, and due diligence activities.
  • Identify and support value engineering opportunities across projects.
  • Provide senior‑level quality assurance on engineering deliverables.
  • Lead external contractors to ensure project milestones and deliverables are met.
  • Provide regular reporting to leadership and cross‑functional teams, including bi‑weekly project updates.
  • Support the development and improvement of corporate engineering processes and workflows.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) designation preferred.
  • 10+ years of hands‑on experience in substation physical and electrical relay design; experience with plant layouts is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring engineering teams of five or more people.
  • Working knowledge of ETAP, SKM, and AutoCAD.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; Microsoft Project experience is an asset.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to operate independently and take ownership of project activities and outcomes.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, prioritization, and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with diverse, multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
