Introduction

Brunel is currently partnering with our mining client who is seeking an Electrical Engineer for direct hire in Arizona.

What are you going to do 

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical Systems & Power Distribution

· Design, review, and support electrical systems including:

o Medium- and low-voltage power distribution

o Motor control centers (MCCs)

o Switchgear and transformers

o Variable frequency drives (VFDs)

o Motor protection systems

· Provide technical support for electrical infrastructure associated with SX/EW processing facilities and wellfield operations.

· Lead the installation, testing, commissioning, and startup of electrical systems for plant upgrades, expansions, and capital projects.

· Ensure electrical systems meet applicable engineering standards, operational requirements, and reliability objectives.

Automation & Control Systems:

· Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize industrial control systems including PLCs, SCADA platforms, and HMI interfaces.

· Support automation strategies to improve process performance, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency.

· Work with Operations and Process Engineering teams to identify opportunities for process control improvements and system optimization.

· Ensure accurate operation, calibration, and maintenance of field instrumentation including flow meters, pressure transmitters, conductivity analyzers, pH sensors, and other process monitoring equipment.

Reliability & Continuous Improvement:

· Investigate equipment failures and perform root cause analyses to develop and implement long-term corrective actions.

· Monitor electrical equipment performance and recommend reliability improvements to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.

· Analyze energy consumption and support initiatives that improve electrical efficiency across the site.

· Develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for critical electrical and control system assets.

Project Management & Technical Support:

· Participate in the planning and execution of capital and sustaining projects.

· Review engineering drawings, specifications, and contractor deliverables for technical accuracy and compliance.

· Collaborate with external engineering consultants, contractors, equipment vendors, and internal stakeholders to support project execution.

· Provide technical guidance and mentorship to operations and maintenance teams as needed.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance:

· Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all electrical work complies with company policies and industry standards.

· Support electrical safety audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and corrective action programs.

· Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards, including NEC, IEEE, MSHA, OSHA, and company procedures.

· Support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical isolation, and safe work practices across the site.

Documentation & Reporting:

· Maintain and update electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.

· Support asset management programs, maintenance planning systems, and equipment databases.

· Prepare technical evaluations, project scopes, engineering reports, and recommendations for management.

· Maintain accurate records of equipment performance, inspections, repairs, and improvement initiatives.

Essential skills and knowledge

Requirements:

· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

· 3-5+ years of electrical engineering experience in mining, metals processing, heavy industrial manufacturing, power generation, chemical processing, or similar industrial environments.

· Experience supporting electrical power distribution, industrial automation, instrumentation, and process control systems.

· Experience with plant operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability improvement initiatives.

· Experience with SX/EW operations, hydrometallurgical processing, or copper production facilities is highly desirable.

· Strong understanding of electrical power systems, motor controls, protection systems, and industrial distribution networks.

· Experience with PLC and SCADA platforms, including Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or comparable systems.

· Knowledge of industrial instrumentation, process control systems, and automation technologies.

· Familiarity with NEC, IEEE, NFPA, OSHA, MSHA, and electrical safety standards.

· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic operating environment.

· Self-motivated with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

· MUST be eligible to work in the U.S. for any employer without the need for sponsorship now or in the future.

Working Conditions:

· Site-based at active mine site in Arizona.

· Routine exposure to industrial processing facilities, outdoor environments, electrical equipment, and active construction or maintenance activities.

· Occasional after-hours support, callouts, and participation in outage or commissioning activities may be required.
