Job Introduction

Our client is seeking an experienced Construction Quality Dimensional Control Inspector to join a major FPSO construction project. This is a critical quality role responsible for ensuring the dimensional accuracy and alignment of fabricated components, modules, structures, and equipment throughout the construction lifecycle.

The successful candidate will work closely with Engineering, Construction, and Quality teams to verify that all fabrication and installation activities comply with project specifications, engineering drawings, and applicable international standards. The role requires strong expertise in dimensional control surveying, inspection methodologies, and advanced measurement technologies such as laser trackers, total stations, and 3D scanning systems.

Purpose

  • The Construction Quality Dimensional Control Inspector is responsible for the dimensional accuracy of all fabricated components and assemblies, ensuring they conform to the design specifications and project tolerances.
  • You work closely with the project engineering, quality, and construction teams to guarantee that all measurements and alignments are accurately recorded and that the integrity of the FPSO structure is maintained throughout the build process.

Responsibilities

  • You perform comprehensive inspections to verify the dimensional accuracy of fabricated components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies for the FPSO, ensuring they meet design specifications and engineering drawings.
  • You maintain accurate records of all dimensional control inspections, including reports, measurement data, and non-conformance reports (NCRs) and communicate any deviations from the design specifications to the relevant teams promptly.
  • You work closely with the engineering and design teams to ensure that the fabrication process aligns with the project specifications, providing feedback to ensure the design is achievable and that all dimensional tolerances are met.
  • You identify any dimensional deviations or non-conformances from the design and project specifications and document these in detail and implement corrective actions.
  • You oversee the inspection and verification of the alignment and fit-up of installed equipment and structures during assembly and installation stages, including checking the placement of modules, piping, and other key components.
  • You ensure that all dimensional control activities comply with relevant international standards, codes (e.g., ASME, API, ISO), and project specifications.
  • You contribute and support the project’s quality assurance process by ensuring that all components and installations meet the required accuracy and quality standards.
  • You monitor the execution of corrective actions for non-conformances and assist in planning and verifying any rework required due to dimensional discrepancies.
  • You provide regular updates on inspection status, including progress, issues, and recommendations for improvements to the quality Lead control team or Construction Quality Manager.

Education

  • Diploma in relevant fields such as Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Structural Engineering.
  • Certification in dimensional control and measurement techniques (e.g., laser scanning, total station, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience working on FPSO construction projects or other offshore oil & gas projects is highly desirable.

Experience

  • Proven experience in dimensional control inspection in the offshore, oil & gas, or shipbuilding industries, with a strong focus on FPSO or large-scale offshore construction projects.
  • Proficient in using various measurement tools such as laser trackers, total stations, 3D scanners, and traditional measurement instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, levels).
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, technical specifications, and dimensional tolerances used in FPSO and offshore construction. Knowledge of shipbuilding and structural fabrication processes is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to quickly identify and address dimensional issues or discrepancies that could impact the construction or installation of components.
  • In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations associated with dimensional control and offshore construction operations.
