Introduction

An opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Mine Geologist - Open Pit to join an established Western Australian gold operation. This position offers broad technical and people responsibility within the site geology function, suited to a Senior Geologist who enjoys being hands-on, developing people and finding better ways of working.

What are you going to do 

Working closely with the wider Technical Services and Operations teams, you will provide leadership across underground mine geology activities, supporting the safe and effective delivery of grade control, production geology, drilling, geological modelling and reconciliation. You will play an important role in maintaining geological confidence and ensuring quality geological information is available to support short and medium-term mine planning and production decisions.

The position will see you provide technical guidance and mentoring to the geology team while maintaining a strong presence across day-to-day underground activities. You will work collaboratively with Mining Engineering, Planning and Production to optimise ore recovery, minimise dilution and ensure geological outcomes align with operational requirements.

Beyond day-to-day production, you will have the opportunity to take genuine ownership of the geology function by reviewing existing systems, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing more effective processes and procedures. The operation is looking for someone who is comfortable challenging existing ways of working, introducing new ideas and helping build a high-performing geology team.

This is an opportunity for a technically strong Senior Underground Gold Geologist who wants more than simply maintaining an established system. You'll have the scope to influence geological performance, develop people and make a meaningful contribution to the continued growth and performance of the underground operation.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology or equivalent.
  • Significant experience within underground gold mining operations.
  • Previous experience as a Senior Mine Geologist or equivalent senior-level underground geology position.
  • Strong underground production and grade control experience.
  • Strong face mapping and underground sampling capability.
  • Experience with underground diamond drilling and resource definition programs.
  • Geological interpretation, modelling and wireframing experience.
  • Strong understanding of stope and development geology.
  • Demonstrated reconciliation experience.
  • Strong understanding of dilution, ore recovery and grade control performance.
  • Experience mentoring and developing geologists.
  • Ability to work effectively with Mining Engineering, Planning and Production.
  • Strong QAQC and geological data management knowledge.
  • Experience managing drilling contractors.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of the geology function.
  • Datamine experience highly regarded, with Leapfrog, Deswik, Vulcan and/or AcQuire also relevant.
  • Australian working rights.
