Introduction

An opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Health & Safety Advisor to support the delivery of major mining infrastructure and decarbonisation projects.

What are you going to do

Working closely with the HSES Lead, project leadership and contractor partners, you will provide practical safety leadership, coaching and assurance across a busy project environment. This is a highly field-focused position requiring someone comfortable engaging directly with frontline personnel, contractors and senior leaders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support implementation and ongoing application of the Health & Safety Management System.
  • Provide practical H&S advice, coaching and mentoring to project leaders, frontline teams and contractors.
  • Maintain a strong field presence, undertaking regular field leadership interactions and assurance activities.
  • Review JHAs, high-risk work certificates, permits and other critical risk documentation.
  • Facilitate and review risk assessments including CRAWs and task-based risk assessments.
  • Support and facilitate incident investigations, including ICAM investigations and corrective actions.
  • Conduct contractor audits and support contractor H&S performance and compliance.
  • Participate in contractor management and critical/major hazard management activities.
  • Coach HSRs, supervisors and leaders in safety compliance, risk management and effective safety leadership.
  • Monitor hazards, incidents and actions and support timely close-out.
  • Coordinate risk profile reviews, contractor reviews and emergency exercises.
  • Prepare H&S reports, KPI reporting, toolbox presentations and safety communications.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across project health and safety.

Essential skills and knowledge

You will be an experienced safety professional with a practical, field-oriented approach and the ability to positively influence both employees and contractors.

You will ideally bring:

  • Extensve H&S experience within construction, mining, processing, oil & gas or another major industrial environment.
  • Previous experience supporting major projects or construction activities.
  • Strong contractor management and contractor assurance experience.
  • Demonstrated risk management and high-risk work experience.
  • Experience conducting or facilitating incident investigations.
  • ICAM / Lead Investigator training or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and safety management systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant WA WHS and mining safety legislation.
  • Internal Auditor qualification in WHS Management Systems.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety or equivalent.
  • Current C-Class driver's licence.
  • Cert IV TAE and/or Leadership & Management qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Candidates must have Australian work rights to be considered for this role

This role will suit an experienced Senior H&S Advisor who enjoys being visible in the field and working directly with project teams and contractors rather than operating primarily in a corporate or systems-focused capacity.

  • 2:1 roster
  • Salary sacrificing
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
