Join a specialist nature and science team supporting critical inland waters studies for a major resources organisation. Apply expertise in aquatic ecology, ecohydrology, surface and groundwater systems to manage multidisciplinary studies, assess environmental risks, support approvals and compliance, and contribute to sustainable environmental management.

What are you going to do 

The appointment may be made at Senior Environmental Advisor or Environmental Advisor level, depending on the expertise and experience of the successful candidate. The position is based in Perth and offered as a two-year contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project manage inland waters studies of varying complexity and scale across multiple environmental disciplines.
  • Prepare detailed scopes of work with input from technical specialists, environmental approvals personnel and study managers.
  • Plan and facilitate inland waters risk assessments.
  • Advise on the mitigation hierarchy and appropriate environmental impact triggers and thresholds.
  • Support the development and implementation of inland waters management plans.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring and ensure data and technical deliverables are captured to a high standard.
  • Provide advice on relevant regulatory frameworks and decision-making authority expectations.
  • Review technical studies, scopes of work, environmental impact assessments and management plans.
  • Guide stakeholder consultation planning and the preparation of consultation materials.
  • Build productive relationships with regulators, academic institutions, industry representatives and technical specialists.

Essential skills and knowledge

Essential

  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Ecology or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 10 or more years of environmental experience within industry or government.
  • Extensive knowledge of inland waters, including aquatic ecology, ecohydrology, surface water and groundwater systems.
  • Strong project-management capability.
  • Experience in statistical analysis and environmental impact assessment modelling.
  • Sound knowledge of Western Australian environmental legislation and approvals processes.
  • Strong stakeholder-management capability across internal and external groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing, negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • You must have current right to work in Australia to be considered for this role

Highly Regarded

  • Familiarity with the Water Quality Australia 2021 Australian and New Zealand Guidelines for Fresh and Marine Water Quality.
  • Experience developing environmental triggers, thresholds and monitoring programs.
  • Established relationships with regulators, industry, academia or specialist environmental consultants.
