Introduction

Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, you will play an integral role in supporting safe, efficient and productive underground mining operations through effective mine planning, scheduling and design.

Working closely with underground operations, geology, geotechnical, survey and production teams, you will develop practical mine plans and designs that support production targets, optimise resource recovery and improve operational performance.

What are you going to do

Underground Mine Planning & Design

  • Develop and maintain short-term, medium-term and long-term underground mine plans and production schedules.
  • Prepare underground mine designs, including development layouts, level plans, stope designs, drill drives and supporting mine infrastructure.
  • Utilise mine planning and design software, preferably Deswik, to develop practical underground mine plans.
  • Collaborate with geology, geotechnical, survey and underground production teams to optimise mine designs, extraction sequences and resource recovery.
  • Support underground development and stoping activities through effective production planning and scheduling.
  • Monitor underground mining performance, assess production results and reconcile actual performance against mine plans.
  • Identify planning constraints, operational risks and opportunities to improve mining efficiency, safety and productivity.

Operational & Technical Support

  • Provide technical mine planning and engineering support to underground production teams.
  • Assist with mine infrastructure planning, including ventilation requirements and development activities.
  • Contribute to mine cost estimation, operational budgeting and production forecasting.
  • Support underground mining projects, mine development activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure mine plans and designs align with operational requirements, safety standards and production objectives.
  • Participate in technical discussions and collaborate with key stakeholders to resolve underground mining challenges.

Essential skills and knowledge

To be successful in this position, you will ideally demonstrate:

  • A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Previous experience working within underground hard-rock mining operations.
  • Practical exposure to underground mine planning, mine design, production scheduling or development planning.

  • Experience using underground mine planning and design software, with Deswik CAD and Deswik Sched highly regarded.
  • Experience within underground gold mining operations will be advantageous.
  • Understanding of mining production cycles, mine design constraints and operational planning requirements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with underground operations, geology, geotechnical and survey teams.
  • Strong analytical, technical problem-solving and communication skills.
  • A proactive approach to safety, operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • A current WA driver's licence.
