Introduction

What are you going to do 

  • Oversight of labor management including allocations for all operations;
  • Prepare work/shift rosters for all operations;
  • Liaise with end users/agencies/contractors;
  • Ensure contracts are being serviced in accordance with their terms and conditions;
  • Management of the annual leave process;
  • Assistance with staff development in conjunction with operational requirements;
  • Focal point of contact for all key clients and management of pre and post operational meetings;
  • Management of vessel planning, ensuring shift supervisors have the tools and information required to effectively and efficiently stevedore vessels;
  • Measuring performance through set KPI’s and goal setting;
  • Management of productivity data;
  • Report daily to the Port Manager on the performance and outcomes of plan versus actual;
  • Assist with toolbox meetings;
  • Support business development activities and projects;
  • Resolution of day-to-day operational and human resource issues, and the supervision of a team of operatives operating in a wide range of activities (quayside and on-board vessels);
  • Ensuring compliance with Port’s safety policies, statutory obligations and ensuring that procedures, risk assessments and work instructions are followed;
  • Compilation of detailed written reports about events, such as near miss, accident, environmental and stop for safety;
  • Ensuring that available resources are utilized effectively and that work operations maximize efficiencies;
  • Ensuring that a structured and disciplined operation is maintained at all times;
  • Liaising directly with customers and other port users and communicating at all levels within the business.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Preferably qualifications in Nautical Science / Port Management to H.N.C level or higher;
  • Preferably 3-5 years in similar role within the port environment on container vessels;
  • Extensive experience working within a port environment, preferably in bulk terminals;
  • Experience working with multinational workforce;
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral;
  • Excellent man-management, organizational and supervisory skills;
  • Computer literate and familiar with typical office applications.
