Introduction

  • The Polyethylene Instrument Specialist is responsible for working with EPC project team and providing input to the instrumentation design for the RLP project.
  • Their actions must be consistent with the project economics and support the project execution plan.
  • The Polyethylene Instrument Specialist will actively participate in the Detailed Design, Procurement and support the project team during Construction and Startup phases of the project to support instrumentation activities and provide backup for Control systems.

What are you going to do 

  • Supervise the development of Project specifications by Contractor.
  • Monitors the Contractor's work to ensure that project I&C requirements and specifications are satisfied.
  • Ensures all the Instrument shall be designed in accordance with the Instrument Design basis and applicable specifications.
  • Establish communication channel between Main Automation Contractor (MAC) and EPC contractor for complex analyzer design/specification development.
  • Review all Instrument I/O Lists, P&IDs, Instrument Indexes, Alarm and Trip Lists, Cable Termination Details, Interconnection Diagrams, Instrument Loop Diagrams, drawings, specifications, and documents.
  • Establish close communications with peer Control Systems/Instrumentation personnel supporting the project to ensure requirements are consistently reflected in Project specifications and procedures.
  • Participates in verification of issued for design P&ID's, Instrument Index, Plot Plans, Instrument and Analyzer Room Layouts, and critical instrument datasheets.
  • Monitors the progress of the Automation Systems supplier, including witnessing and Acceptance of FAT.
  • Support MAC Engineer for package system or other specialty systems FAT's including MAC associated process control system FAT and Integrated FAT.
  • Ensures package system specifications are following project I&C requirements.
  • Participate with Contractor in development of critical instrument data sheets, including control valves, flow elements and analyzers.
  • Participate in the technical evaluation of critical instrumentation.
  • Reviews sizing of field instruments and control valves.
  • Reviews Contractor detailed design documentation and specifications.
  • Participate in the technical evaluation of critical instrumentation.
  • Assist operations and maintenance with input into the detailed design and engineering.
  • Participate in final PHA.
  • Participate in P&ID reviews.
  • Assist in developing scope for procurement of owner’s cost items to support plant operations.
  • Ensure a safe startup by following tenets, all company and plant procedures, and using available technical resources.
  • Participates as startup team to ensure the plant is operating as designed and debugged.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 15+ years’ experience in chemical processing or refinery experience
  • Previous HAZOP/LOPA experience
  • ‘Grass roots” major capital project experience.
  • Experience working with an EPC contractor(s)
  • New asset commissioning experience
  • Experience in Polyolefin Unit design, engineering, and operation
  • Associate Degree in Instrumentation with 10+ years of experience in Instrumentation
  • Must have good troubleshooting abilities.
  • Must be a self-starter with desire to lead and take responsibility.
  • Must have strong commitment to personnel and process safety.
  • Must have knowledge of Industry Standards
  • Commitment and flexibility to work at Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLIC), Qatar.
  • Commitment to relocate internationally to construction site.
  • Commitment to stay on the project through startup and stable operations.
  • Excellent leadership and team building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
