What are you going to do 

  • Study the contractual scope of site work, applicable specification and standards, application, electrical scheme drawings and interface engineering.
  • Prepare site test procedure and test formats taking into consideration the manufacturer recommendations and applicable standard.
  • Plan and schedule testing and commissioning activities.
  • Identify and arrange test equipment needed to carry out the task. Verify the availability of required documentation (specifications, scheme drawings, etc…)
  • Prepare relay setting calculation if required for small jobs.
  • Proceed with the testing and commissioning of the equipment and its interface with other equipment in line with the test procedure and agreement reached with the customer.
  • Issue the documentation of the test results duly validated by the individual and the customer. Issue the certification of the installation for energization and operation.
  • Investigate reported malfunction and implement curative action / initiate corrective action.
  • Co-ordinate with customer for outage requirement, entry gate pass, work permit, etc…
  • Verify application of all safety rules and good maintenance of test and measuring instruments and tools, and implement the corrections needed.
  • Report on progress and completion of jobs.
  • Control all related documentation (Procedure, test reports, as built drawings)

Performing test of protection relays and substation electrical HV/LV equipment.

  • Testing of vacuum reclosers, pad mounted step-up transformers, instrument transformers (PT/CT), surge arresters, switchboard, grounding system, and relay protection systems.
  • Ensures the performance of all field testing on substation equipment is completed accurately and safely.
  • Develop and execute substation equipment test procedures.
  • Provide technical instruction, mentoring, guidance with regard to substation systems and electrical power systems to field testing technicians.
  • Develop testing & commissioning departmental and project requirements.
  • Ensure compliance of testing QA/QC process.
  • Regularly meet and liaise with clients and other personnels with responsibility to act independently on technical matters relating to testing & commissioning.
  • Consults with client on testing and commissioning projects.
  • Maintains excellent relationship with client and field personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential skills and knowledge

Requirements for the Electrical Testing and Commissioning Engineer role include:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering/Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Power & Controls, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of proven demonstrated experience on testing experience, or design and construction of similar facilities. Experience in ZIV protection relay is a plus.
  • Must have an expert understanding of electrical systems.
  • Proficient in reading electrical single lines, DC schematics, and equipment wiring diagrams.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize projects and tasks.
  • Must exhibit advanced knowledge of electrical industry standards.
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong leadership skills, attention to safety, strong analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
  • Must be advanced in the use of testing equipment as CMC256 and CMC100 and other test equipment's etc.
