Introduction

A Fire Truck Driver cum Pump Operator is a critical member of the emergency response team responsible for operating firefighting vehicles and equipment during fire and rescue operations. The role combines safe and efficient driving of fire trucks with the technical operation of water pumping systems and firefighting equipment.

What are you going to do 

Emergency Response

  • Respond immediately to fire alarms, emergencies, and rescue situations.
  • Operate fire trucks and emergency vehicles safely while ensuring rapid deployment to incident locations.
  • Assist in firefighting, rescue operations, and hazard control during incidents.

Pump Operation & Firefighting Activities

  • Operate fire pumps, hoses, foam systems, and other firefighting equipment efficiently.
  • Maintain optimal water pressure and ensure proper functioning of pumping systems during firefighting operations.
  • Support fire suppression activities using appropriate techniques and equipment.

Inspection & Maintenance

  • Conduct daily inspection of fire trucks, ensuring full operational readiness.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain firefighting equipment, PPE, and safety gear.
  • Perform basic maintenance of tools such as hoses, SCBA, nozzles, and rescue equipment.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all equipment and personnel are ready for emergency response and meet safety standards.
  • Follow established fire safety procedures and emergency response protocols.
  • Participate in risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits.

Training & Preparedness

  • Participate in regular fire drills, training sessions, and mock exercises to maintain operational readiness.
  • Stay updated with firefighting techniques, emergency response procedures, and safety regulations.

Communication & Reporting

  • Maintain clear communication with control rooms and response teams during incidents.
  • Prepare and submit accurate incident reports and maintenance logs after operations.
  • Coordinate with team members and supervisors to ensure effective emergency response.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist in evacuation procedures and crowd control during emergencies.
  • Support rescue operations such as confined space entry and accident response (when trained).
  • Ensure cleanliness and readiness of fire stations and equipment.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in Firefighting or Fireman Course from a recognized training institute.
  • Diploma or certification in Industrial Safety (preferred for oil & gas or industrial roles).
  • Valid Heavy Vehicle Driving License (mandatory for fire truck operation).
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, and Emergency Response (preferred).
  • Specialized training such as HAZMAT, rescue operations, or foam system handling is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in operating fire trucks, pumps, and firefighting systems.
  • Familiarity with hazardous materials management and emergency response protocols.
  • Ability to operate firefighting and rescue equipment efficiently in emergency conditions.
  • Capability to follow Incident Command System (ICS) or structured emergency frameworks.
  • Willingness to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and emergency call-outs.
  • Strong commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in firefighting or emergency response services.
  • Experience in industrial, oil & gas, or petrochemical environments is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in operating fire pumps and foam-based firefighting systems.
