Introduction

Brunel is currently searching for an Operations Manager for direct hire with our client at their bulk terminal facility located in Louisiana about an hour South of New Orleans.

As the Operations Manager you will oversee 4 teams responsible for discharging barges and loading ocean vessels on a 24/7 rotating shift operation.

What are you going to do 

Responsibilities and duties may include:

  • Accountable for all planning and executing all operational functions at the terminal.
  • Coordinate with other departments and terminal management.
  • Financial forecasting on a weekly basis to effectively manage cost.
  • Ensure all operational, safety, security, environmental and business procedures/standards, and policies are being adhered to with terminal operations.
  • Maintain fully operational.
  • Manage teams; 4 direct reports, up to 56 indirect reports.
  • Monitor and track operational performance on tons being handled.
  • Create and provide daily shift work orders.
  • Manage mobile equipment allocation.
  • Adapt, implement and monitor changes in processes.
  • Conduct investigations on incidents.
  • Collaborate with Logistics Manager to plan placement of product in coordination with vessel loading schedules.
  • Oversee hiring and termination process, manage contractors and ensure correct time entry in ADP.
  • Manage expense forecast process for operations department.
  • Ensure that dispatchers are closely aligned with operational schedules and orders for the efficient movement of barges and vessels at the terminal.
  • Create and manage training schedules, create operations job aids and update as needed.
  • Ensure all staff are signed off and in compliance with ESV equipment verifications.
  • Set goals and objectives, track and communicate KPI results.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in marine terminal or mining management (coal and petcoke experience preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience managing and overseeing safety programs.
  • Ability to resolve issues quickly, safely and effectively in a stressful environment.
  • Self-starter with strong leadership, communications, analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Superb organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to create and implement efficient organizational systems.
  • Willingness to learn through "hands-on" training which may be physical at times.
  • Flexible team player
  • Valid driver's license
  • TWIC card or ability to obtain
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions
  • Must be flexible if shift work is required which could include nights, weekends, holidays.
  • Must meet "fit for duty" preemployment physical and drug screen.
