Introduction

We are seeking an experienced Workshop Supervisor (Mechanical) to join a leading petrochemical company in Qatar. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising mechanical workshop operations, leading multidisciplinary maintenance teams, and ensuring the safe and efficient execution of valve maintenance, PRV/PSV overhaul, welding, fabrication, machining, and static equipment repair activities.

What are you going to do 

The Workshop Supervisor (Mechanical) will be responsible for leading and coordinating all mechanical workshop maintenance activities to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant equipment. The role involves supervising a multidisciplinary team of welders, fabricators, machinists, and valve technicians while ensuring compliance with company HSE, quality, and maintenance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily workshop operations and provide technical guidance to mechanical maintenance personnel.

  • Lead teams of welders, fabricators, machinists, and valve technicians to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.

  • Coordinate preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities for workshop equipment.

  • Oversee the inspection, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of PRVs/PSVs, mechanical valves, rupture discs, and related equipment.

  • Support plant shutdowns (SD) and turnarounds (TA) by planning and executing workshop maintenance activities.

  • Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, toolbox talks, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Permit to Work (PTW), and QA/QC procedures.

  • Utilize SAP PM to manage work orders, maintenance schedules, and equipment records.

  • Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Planning, QA/QC, and contractors to ensure timely execution of maintenance work.

  • Manage workshop tools, equipment, calibration records, and tool crib activities.

  • Review technical drawings, P&IDs, isometric drawings, maintenance procedures, and repair scopes.

  • Support procurement by preparing technical specifications and evaluating materials, spare parts, and vendor proposals.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop workshop personnel while ensuring competency and training requirements are maintained.

  • Prepare maintenance reports, monitor KPIs, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and workshop performance.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • 5-7+ years of experience in Petrochemical, Refinery, LNG, or Oil & Gas processing industries.

  • Proven experience supervising mechanical workshop operations and multidisciplinary maintenance teams.

  • Strong technical expertise in PRV/PSV overhaul, valve repair and testing, rupture discs, welding & fabrication, machining, static equipment, and piping maintenance.

  • Hands-on experience with preventive, corrective, and shutdown/turnaround maintenance activities.

  • Working knowledge of SAP PM, P&IDs, isometric drawings, hydro testing, pneumatic testing, and maintenance best practices.

  • Familiarity with HSE standards, Permit to Work (PTW), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and QA/QC procedures.

  • Strong leadership, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage contractors and workshop personnel effectively.

  • Experience working in a multicultural industrial environment with a strong focus on safety, quality, and operational excellence.
