What are you going to do 

We are partnering with our client, a respected organization in the Oil and Gas sector, to recruit a Tank In-Charge for their operations in Chennai. In this pivotal role, you will lead and supervise storage tank construction activities for liquid storage terminals, tank farms, marine terminals and EPC infrastructure projects, ensuring safe execution, quality compliance, schedule adherence and statutory conformity from site mobilization through to commissioning. This is a high-impact opportunity to be at the forefront of critical infrastructure delivery as part of our client's team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and supervise tank fabrication, erection, hydrotesting and commissioning activities.
  • Manage shell, bottom, annular plate, roof structure, nozzles, stairways, platforms and appurtenance installation.
  • Coordinate cone roof, dome roof, IFR and EFR tank construction.
  • Ensure foundation readiness, settlement monitoring and interface coordination with civil works.
  • Monitor welding quality, WPS/PQR compliance, welder qualifications, NDT and material traceability.
  • Coordinate procurement, QA/QC, HSE, planning, engineering and subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with API 650, API 620, API 653, ASME IX, AWS, OISD, NFPA, IS and PESO requirements.
  • Monitor construction productivity, schedule, cost and contractor performance.
  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly progress reports, punch lists, turnover dossiers and as-built records.
  • Lead mechanical completion, commissioning support and final handover.
  • Storage tank fabrication, erection, hydrotesting and settlement monitoring.
  • Welding inspection, NDT, QA/QC and contractor management.
  • Knowledge of API 650, API 620, API 653, ASME IX, ASTM, AWS, OISD and NFPA.
  • Software: AutoCAD, SAP, Primavera P6/MS Project, MS Office.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • BE/B. Tech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. CSWIP/AWS Welding Inspection, API 650/API 653, NDT or PMP certifications are desirable.
  • Experience: 8-15 years of experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, LNG or Tank Terminal EPC projects with extensive experience in atmospheric storage tank construction and site management.
  • Experience in greenfield and brownfield tank terminal projects.
  • Strong capability in multidisciplinary coordination and site execution.
