Brunel is currently searching for a Sr. Environmental Specialist for a direct position with our client located in Arizona.

In this role you be responsible to ensure regulatory requirements for permits air, water, waste, hazardous materials and wildlife programs are met. This role sits on-site at an operating mine site about an hour and a half East of Phoenix, Arizona.

What are you going to do 

Duties:

  • Provide expertise, support and guidance to Environmental Specialist in permit compliance in execution of air, water and waste programs and activities.
  • Provide technical assistance and represent the company environmental interests to management, employees, governmental/regulatory personnel and others on matters regarding environmental monitoring, compliance and reporting.
  • Research, analyze, prepare, approve information that may include air quality, water and waste rules, regulations, codes and standards.
  • Provide oversite of documentation of compliance with various permits, plans and commitments.
  • Prepare charts and graphs to identify trends and summarize data.
  • Prepare reports submitted to regulatory agencies: Annual Emission Inventory, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Form R, (APP) SMRF, DMR, APP Annual Report and AZPDES Annual Reports.
  • Mentors Environmental Specialists.
  • Utilize Monitor Pro and database systems for managing data, compliance requirements and environmental reporting.
  • Work with corporate to develop sustainability goals including energy efficiency, greenhouse gas reductions, water conservation, recycling, green purchasing practices.
  • Develops, reviews and revises procedures and plans for environmental activities and permitted equipment as required by permits and regulations.
  • Conduct environmental audits, participate in meetings.
  • Supports compliance with environmental programs focusing on air quality, groundwater and surface water quality, HazCom, waste, SPCC, AZPDES, MSGP and APP.
  • Prepare air permit modification applications.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and updated environmental regulations.
  • Maintain DOT, HAZWOPER and RCRA certifications.
  • Maintain Method 9 certification for visual opacity monitoring of stacks and stockpiles.
  • Maintain ADEQ Certified Operator for water and wastewater.

Essential skills and knowledge

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Environmental Engineer or related field.
  • 5-8 years’ experience preferred providing technical support to ensure compliance with established standards and governmental regulations for air quality, water, waste, wildlife and remediation.
  • Application of math, algebraic formulas, calculus and statistics in problem solving and solutions analysis.
  • Mining experience is a plus and is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience developing information and making presentations
  • Database management skills
