Introduction

We are seeking an experienced Senior Aboriginal Affairs Advisor for an initial six-month contract within a major resources and energy organisation. Supporting the Lead Aboriginal Affairs Advisor, the role will assist with RAP implementation, Indigenous employment and supplier diversity initiatives, cultural capability programs, stakeholder engagement and broader Aboriginal Affairs projects.

What are you going to do 

This position would suit an experienced Aboriginal Affairs, Indigenous Engagement, Community Relations or Social Performance professional who combines strong stakeholder engagement capability with excellent written communication and project coordination skills.

Key responsibilities

  • Support implementation of the organisation's Reconciliation Action Plan and associated action plans.
  • Coordinate information and input from internal business units to support RAP commitments.
  • Prepare briefing notes, presentations, reports, strategy documents and policies.
  • Support improvement of Aboriginal Affairs governance frameworks and processes.
  • Contribute to Indigenous employment and supplier diversity initiatives.
  • Support cultural awareness and cultural capability programs.
  • Assist with broader social performance and ESG initiatives where required.
  • Provide coordination support across Aboriginal Affairs projects and programs.
  • Undertake research, benchmarking and data analysis to support decision-making.
  • Monitor project milestones, deliverables and actions.
  • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders across the organisation.

Essential skills and knowledge

You will ideally bring:

  • Demonstrated experience across Aboriginal Affairs, Indigenous Engagement, Community Relations, Social Performance, Sustainability, ESG or a closely related area.
  • A strong understanding of reconciliation, Indigenous engagement and Aboriginal Affairs frameworks within a corporate or government environment.
  • Experience supporting governance, reporting and program delivery.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management capability.
  • Excellent written communication skills, particularly across reports, policies, briefing papers and strategic documentation.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Experience supporting Reconciliation Action Plans, Indigenous employment, supplier diversity or cultural capability programs will be highly regarded.

Previous experience within resources, energy, infrastructure or government environments would also be advantageous.
