Introduction

  • A Safety Officer is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment by ensuring compliance with company Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

What are you going to do 

* Implement and monitor company HSE policies, procedures, and safety management systems.* Ensure compliance with local, national, and international safety regulations and standards.
* Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits to identify unsafe conditions and practices.* Monitor work activities to ensure adherence to approved safety procedures and permit-to-work systems.
* Assist management in developing and improving HSE programs and initiatives.* Identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
* Participate in risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSA), and Hazard Identification (HAZID) studies.* Monitor implementation of risk mitigation measures and verify their effectiveness.
* Ensure appropriate control measures are applied before commencement of high-risk activities.* Investigate accidents, incidents, near-misses, and unsafe acts or conditions.
* Prepare detailed incident reports and recommend preventive measures.* Track corrective actions and ensure timely closure of safety observations and non-conformances.
* Maintain records and statistical data related to safety performance.* Conduct safety inductions for employees, contractors, and visitors.
* Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and awareness campaigns.* Promote safety awareness and encourage proactive reporting of hazards and unsafe conditions.
* Support competency development through safety training programs and drills.* Assist in developing and implementing emergency response plans.
* Participate in emergency drills, evacuation exercises, and crisis management activities.* Ensure emergency equipment and facilities are regularly inspected and maintained.
* Support emergency response teams during incidents and emergencies.* Maintain accurate HSE records, reports, permits, and documentation.
* Monitor compliance with PPE requirements and safety standards.* Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly HSE reports for management review.
* Liaise with regulatory authorities and external auditors during inspections and audits.* Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
* Conduct site safety inspections and safety walkthroughs.* Verify that equipment, tools, and machinery are operated safely and maintained properly.
* Ensure work sites remain free from unsafe conditions and environmental risks.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Additional safety certifications are highly desirable.
  • Preferred certifications include:
    • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC)
    • IOSH Managing Safely
    • OSHA Certifications
    • H2S Safety Training
    • First Aid and CPR Certification
    • Fire Safety and Emergency Response Training
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Safety Officer in industrial, construction, oil & gas, power, manufacturing, petrochemical, or related environments.
  • Experience in site safety inspections, permit-to-work systems, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
  • Familiarity with international HSE standards and best practices.
