Introduction

Brunel is currently searching for a Project Risk & Change Manager for an Ex-Pat rotational project for our Mining client in Chile. This role will be working 4 weeks on a mine site, then return home for 2 weeks (1 week is not working). This role requires the incumbent to pass a strict health screening as part of the onboarding process.

What are you going to do 

Under moderate supervision, you will lead the Project Risk and Change Management functions by identifying, assessing, mitigating, and reporting risks while controlling scope changes to protect project cost, schedule, and business objectives.

Duties include:

  • Lead the project change management process from initiation of trends through to approval of changes and implementation, ensuring all potential changes are evaluated for cost, schedule, risk, and business impacts.
  • Manage and/or process project change notices, maintain change logs as required and report on changes through company's Change Management System.
  • Assist in compilation of all weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for the project.
  • Based on design reviews, identifies any out-of-scope changes and documents quantity variances based on material take-offs (MTOs) from design documents.
  • Assess the cost and schedule impacts of design or construction changes and associated cost growth and/or schedule slippages. Evaluates proposed process improvements, requests for information (RFIs), and differing site conditions for impacts to the project in terms of cost and/or schedule.
  • Ensure approved changes are incorporated into project budgets, forecasts, schedules, and reports
  • Identifies and resolves project control issues through various methods and provides proposed solutions to address problems. Works closely with other project controls team members on resolving issues identified building on technical knowledge, designing innovative short cuts, and reviewing engineering alternatives.
  • Manage and/or validate estimated quantities, cost of materials, equipment, or labor to validate project estimates, change orders and scope changes through the review of design drawings, sketches, calculations or other information supplied by the engineering or construction company.
  • Lead the project risk management process, including facilitation of risk workshops, maintenance of risk registers, assessment of probability and impact, development of mitigation plans, and reporting of project risk exposure to management.
  • Present risk, contingency, change, and forecast information to project leadership to support strategic decision making.
  • Perform other duties as required. Reports to the Project Controls Manager.

Job Scope:

  • Nature of work: Works on moderately complex issues and usually implements solutions through consultation with other project controls team members.
  • Level of interaction: Collaborates within the department or work group with interaction with external colleagues in various companies and departments.
  • Autonomy/decision making: Works under limited supervision and has limited latitude to set objectives, priorities and timelines impacting the individual assigned area of work.
  • Budgetary responsibility: Has no budget responsibility.
  • Managerial responsibility: Will co-share the management of cost staff members with the cost lead.

Essential skills and knowledge

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED and twelve (12 years' experience in engineering, construction, project controls or business-related field OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business or related fields and eight (8) years' experience in project controls.
  • Experience with ERP system, SAP, P6 and EcoSys is desired.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high paced project environment.
  • Experience with cost control including project estimating, forecasting and cost management including reporting.
  • Construction experience with an ability to maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions in a construction environment.
  • Experience with Owner's side heavy industrial mega EPC construction projects.

  • This position is based on a 10-hour workday, 5 days/week on a monthly fixed rate.
  • 4 weeks working at job site, 2 weeks at home (1 week is working, 1 week is off).
  • Incumbent will receive fully furnished corporate housing.
