Introduction

Reporting to both the Procurement Lead as well as the Project Manager while assigned to a project, the Project Procurement Specialist will utilize and maintain the standard project procurement methods, procedures, templates, and systems.

Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid Work Schedule, 3 days onsite/2 days remote) Duration: 1 year, potential to renew

What are you going to do 

  • Work closely with procurement leadership, contracts teams, and project stakeholders to support project execution. Acting as a member of the owner's team, the specialist is responsible for carrying out procurement activities and overseeing the work of external engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) partners.
  • Developing and implementing project-specific procurement procedures aligned with established internal standards, and building procurement plans that reflect strategic packaging and overall project execution goals. The role leads the preparation of procurement documentation across the full lifecycle, including setup, RFPs, bid evaluations, letters of recommendation, and contractual agreements, while also managing purchase orders from issuance through close-out.
  • Design and maintain procurement workflows, facilitates regular project procurement meetings, and tracks actions and progress to ensure alignment with project timelines. They ensure that external service providers adhere to applicable policies, best practices, and project requirements, while maintaining accurate and up-to-date procurement records.
  • Supporting the evaluation of cost and schedule claims, contributing to project close-out activities such as lessons learned documentation, and collaborating with legal teams on supplier agreements. The role also supports the development of supplier databases, participates in improving procurement practices, and performs related administrative tasks as needed, while consistently promoting strong safety and environmental standards.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • 6-8 years of experience in project procurement with a preference for experience working on major mining and/or process plant project implementation.
  • 1-2 years of hands-on field experience.
  • Strong expertise in purchase order formation, negotiation and change management. Proven knowledge of project management principles, including risk management and change management.
  • Solid understanding and experience in multiple phases of project execution.
  • Ability to identify procurement activities that impact the project's critical path.
  • Strong knowledge of the engineering (EPCM) industry, with the ability to interpret drawings and technical reports (highly desirable).
  • Working knowledge of ERP procurement/purchasing systems.
  • Experience with freight forwarding, logistics, brokerage and quality surveillance. Excellent critical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, SharePoint.
