Introduction

  • Monitor, analyze and make recommendations for the improvement of operational performance of relevant COMPANY operational assets by conducting technical audits of plant, providing process engineering supports and optimizing the Operations activities in COMPANY and make recommendations for renovation or replacement of equipment in the MTBE, MeOH & Utility complex.
  • The jobholder is accountable for ensuring that opportunities are identified and realized for improving efficiencies and reducing costs through the optimum operational activities.
  • All recommendations are discussed with Senior Process Engineering staff before being accepted / or being put forward formally for approval by Senior Production Manager for adoptions.
  • Engineering work to overhaul or replace non-performing equipment must be approved by the Plant Managers and Senior Production Manager and other top management as required.

What are you going to do 

  • Process Engineering support:
    • Through the development of suitable programs, monitor and review current plant performance including catalyst and equipment performance, prepare work scope for minor plant modifications, technical bid evaluations, conduct technical audit of the plant, monitoring Utilities performance.
    • Participate in PMR design review meeting to provide process related inputs.
    • Evaluate process/plant relevant suggestions for feasibility & issue PMR for review/implementation.
    • Perform process plant simulation as required.
    • Performs necessary process engineering calculations as requested.
  • Operational Coordination Jobs:
    • Liaise with operations personnel to assess the capability and capacity of plant versus production forecasts to provide feedback for the scheduling of plant operations.
    • Planning of raw material forecast monthly, yearly and invoice verification.
    • Trouble shooting of all operational problems and participate in all plant emergencies, upsets, events and issue related reports in a timely manner.
    • Review all standard operating procedures to ensure their efficacy and recommend changes where appropriate to ensure that the way in which the plant and equipment is operated will facilitate its efficient performance.
    • Prepares Daily, monthly and annual production performance report.
    • Production department relevant presentations
  • Efficiency Improvement:
    • Work with Operations & Maintenance personnel to develop action plans for the improvement of plant/equipment efficiency so that load forecast requirements can be achieved in an optimum manner and cost savings can be realized.
  • Catalyst & Chemical Inventory Management:
    • On the basis of historical plant performance advice as to optimum spares stock levels of all catalysts & chemicals so that COMPANY cash flow is not compromised, and cash is not tied up in holding redundant materials.
  • Performance Benchmarking:
    • Through comparison with other international similar petrochemicals companies and COMPANY’s own design vs. actual (summer vs. winter) conditions, establish benchmarks for the optimum operations and for cost saving through more effective interfacing of these parameters.
  • Safety, Quality & Environment:
    • Through HAZOP participation, ensures that all relevant safety, quality and environmental procedures, instructions and controls are adhered to so that the safety of employees, quality of products/services and environmental compliance can be achieved.
  • Budget & Cost Control:
    • Prepares 1st draft of Departmental annual budget plan and preliminary capital budget justifications for review.
    • Monitor actual financial performance of plant/production versus budgets so that areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified and rectified promptly, and potential performance improvement opportunities are capitalized upon.
  • Policies & Procedures:
    • Ensures compliance with all relevant company Safety, Security, Environment & other Management policies & procedures.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • University degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 8 years’ relevant operational/design experience in a world scale petrochemical environment, preferably MTBE, Methanol and/or Ammonia and Power plant.
  • Knowledge of basic design (process engineering calculations, technical audits), process simulation (HYSIS, Pro Vision, etc.), process and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Broad understanding of all COMPANY operations and maintenance processes.
  • Expert understanding of equipment performance testing techniques and theory.
  • Expert understanding of environmental testing protocols and techniques.
  • Detailed understanding of plant/equipment specifications.
  • Process simulation.
  • HAZOP techniques.
  • English Language.

  • Knowledge of Policy & Procedure.
