Introduction

  • Responsible to manage Operations and Chemistry & Environmental Departments to ensure safe and efficient operation of the plant, ensuring that the plant meets Key performance indicators such as availability, reliability, efficiency, generation and cost targets, safely and within strict environmental limits. Development of the short- and long-term operation strategy for the plant and the development of a capable operations team to support that strategy;
  • Set the objectives and targets for the individual team leader, perform periodical reviews and provide assistance to individual’s in achieving the set targets;
  • To evaluate and identify the development requirements of individuals i.e team leaders and team members;
  • Performance reviews and annual compensation reviews;
  • Succession plan for the leadership and other important positions;
  • The job holder is responsible to prepare and present the business strategy to leadership;
  • The jobholder operates under the general guidance of the Chief Operating Officer, COO on all issues related to plant operations and team management;
  • The jobholder is free to plan and manage own areas of activity within set policy/procedural boundary limits;
  • Any extraordinary issues arising outside of set policies and procedures are referred to the Chief Operating Officer, COO and leadership for discussion and approval of recommended actions.

What are you going to do 

  • To provide leadership to the operations team for the safe, reliable and efficient operations of the plant;
  • Provide guidance to resolve complicated and critical technical operational and maintenance issues;
  • Provide guidance to the team for the efficient utilization and management of resources (man power and other resources) for the safe, reliable and efficient plant operations;
  • Monitoring the progress and quality of work orders through CMMS;
  • Safe and efficient delivery of high levels of commercial availability within environment limits;
  • Ensure that efficiency and availability targets are effectively communicated and achieved;
  • Effective liaison with off-taker customer system operator over plant operational issues;
  • Make decisions, or assist others to make decisions, to resolve plant operational problems with immediate, medium- and long-term consequences;
  • Lead and motivate the LOE & shift team leaders to develop commercial driven teams setting appropriate people and plant related performance measures;
  • Deliver outcomes, in all areas of work, consistent with the Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental policies;
  • Ensure Company Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures are implemented & carried out;
  • Participate in internal / external Health, Safety and Environmental audits and monitor relevant findings;
  • Ensure all procedures, documentation, drawings and manuals are kept up to date and necessary training is completed in a timely manner;
  • Ensure suitable training programs are in place, both for individual development and operational competence, and develop appropriate succession plans for key staff;
  • Prepare a budget for operations and provide regular reports of expenditure, explaining variances, potential risks and/or problems and recommending solutions;
  • Deliver planned generation and availability targets within budget;
  • Provide and support an environment and mechanism where communication and cooperation between the Maintenance and Operation teams, as well as with Admin Staff, is at an excellent level;
  • Responsible to make sure periodic reviews and revisions are carried out to keep all the operational procedures updated and make sure that people are trained for the changes;
  • To make sure that all relevant operational procedures and instructions are being followed so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner;
  • Provide Authorisation for Permit To Work System;
  • Ensure Robust Isolation Procedure to ensure safety from the system. (e.g. Plant and Apparatus).

Essential skills and knowledge

  • University Degree in Engineering;
  • Management / Leadership qualification will be an added advantage;
  • 10-12 years’ experience in plant operations and maintenance of CCGT and desalination plants;
  • Expertise in PWPA Implementation and Interpretation;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and able to interact with people at all levels both internally and outside the business.
