What are you going to do 

The I&E Designer will be responsible for drafting, design development, design verification, bill of materials (BOM) creation, change control, component specification, drawing revision management, development and reuse of standard designs, and document management. The role requires collecting information from a variety of sources, including engineers, vendors, reference drawings, catalogs, and other disciplines, to produce complete, accurate, functional, and constructible design packages. This position also includes the development of template drawings and engineering standards to support daily activities.

Strong communication and leadership abilities, along with expertise in Instrumentation Design and the National Electrical Code (NEC), are essential for success in this role.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Electrical Engineers across multiple locations.
  • Develop complete construction and maintenance design packages that satisfy project scope requirements using P&IDs and other provided project documentation.
  • Ensure process safety principles are incorporated into all project designs.
  • Support the safe installation of vendor-supplied systems.
  • Deliver projects within established budget and schedule targets.
  • Ensure project designs meet the operational requirements of end users.
  • Travel may be required on occasion.

Drawing Packages May Include:

  • Instrument location drawings, control room layouts, analyzer and loading building layouts and designs, one-line diagrams, cable sizing for instrumentation and low-voltage systems, cable tray layouts and sizing for instrumentation and low-voltage wiring, 24VDC power/control/shutdown schematics, 120VAC power and control schematics, PLC panel drawings, junction box drawings, and control system layouts and schematics.
  • Design of communication systems utilizing fiber optic cables and/or Ethernet networks, including AC and DC interconnections, conduit layouts, and cable schedules.
Required Skills:
  • This is a technical role requiring a foundational understanding of electrical systems. Candidates should possess working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), National Electrical Safety Code (NFPA 70E), NEMA standards, and basic IEC symbols and conventions.

Computer / CAD Skills:

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Bluebeam
  • AutoCAD
  • CADWorx
  • Adept

Experience:

  • Associate degree in Instrumentation Design, Electrical Design, Trade School certification, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5-8 years of experience in industrial Electrical and/or Instrumentation environments.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with API 500 standards preferred.
  • Experience with instrumentation applications in Wet Natural Gas, Dry Natural Gas, and Crude or Processed Liquids service.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Hazardous Area Classifications.
  • Understanding of maintenance and construction practices.
