Role Overview:

Our client is seeking an experienced to oversee the onsite assembly and installation of heavy electrical equipment for a major HVDC converter station project. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of electrical and mechanical erection activities, from equipment receipt and unloading through to final mechanical completion, while maintaining compliance with OEM specifications, project requirements, and site safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Erection Oversight: Lead the installation of critical HVDC components, including converter transformers, valve halls, smoothing reactors, filter banks, and busbar systems.
  • Heavy Lifting & Rigging: Coordinate complex lifting plans and rigging operations, ensuring heavy equipment is positioned safely and accurately in accordance with site assembly drawings.
  • Assembly Compliance: Verify that all sub-assemblies (e.g., cooling systems, valve stacks, insulator strings) are installed per the manufacturer’s installation manuals and technical specifications.
  • Progress Tracking: Manage the daily installation schedule, tracking material receipt, progress of mechanical assembly, and identifying potential bottlenecks in the supply chain or erection workflow.
  • Inter-disciplinary Coordination: Serve as the primary liaison between the mechanical erection teams, electrical cable installers, and the site engineering team to resolve interface issues.
  • Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of "as-built" information, installation checklists, torque verification logs, and non-conformance reports during the erection phase.
  • Safety & Compliance: Manage site-specific hazards related to high-elevation work, heavy machinery, and confined space access; ensure all erection activities strictly follow project environmental and safety standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Technical diploma or degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: 5+ years of direct experience in the erection and installation of high-voltage transmission equipment; specific experience with HVDC converter station construction is highly preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret complex civil, mechanical, and electrical layout drawings, wiring diagrams, and assembly schematics.
  • Operational Skills: Experience supervising subcontractors, managing tool/equipment logistics, and overseeing heavy-duty equipment installation.
  • Certifications: Professional certification in high-voltage installation or relevant electrical trade license; proficiency in rigging/lifting standards is a significant asset.
  • Physical Ability: Capability to work in varied outdoor environments and site conditions common to large-scale infrastructure projects.
