Introduction

We are looking for an experienced HVDC Cable Engineer to support two major transmission infrastructure projects. The role focuses on the technical evaluation, qualification, and coordination of HVDC cable systems throughout the engineering, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning phases. This is a long-term opportunity within large-scale offshore and onshore grid expansion projects, offering a predominantly remote setup with occasional travel.

What are you going to do

  • Review and further develop technical concepts for HVDC cable systems, including cables, joints, terminations, accessories, and station connections.
  • Assess engineering, manufacturing, installation, testing, and quality documentation provided by cable suppliers and contractors.
  • Evaluate design, material, process, and supplier changes and their impact on electrical, thermal, mechanical, and ageing performance.
  • Define and review qualification and validation activities, including Type Tests, PQ Tests, FATs, SATs, installation tests, and lifetime assessments.
  • Analyze system stresses resulting from grid operation, switching events, faults, overvoltages, and converter operation to determine testing and qualification requirements.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces between cable manufacturers, jointing specialists, converter suppliers, grid planning, quality management, and commissioning teams.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the design, engineering, qualification, testing, technical assessment, or commissioning of high- or extra-high-voltage cable systems (HVAC and/or HVDC).
  • Strong expertise in HVDC cable systems, cable accessories, joints, terminations, and station interfaces.
  • Proven experience reviewing cable designs and assessing material, process, or supplier changes.
  • Hands-on experience with FAT, SAT, PQ testing, quality assurance, and acceptance processes within energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working with cable manufacturers, installation contractors, EPC organizations, and international project teams.
  • Fluent English (minimum C1 level) and unrestricted work authorization within the European Union.
