What are you going to do 

Our client is seeking an experienced Fabrication Yard Manager (Liquefaction) to lead module fabrication activities for a major LNG development project in Huangdao, Qingdao, China.

Reporting to the Project Delivery Director, the successful candidate will oversee all day-to-day fabrication yard activities, providing leadership to the owner's site team while working closely with the EPC contractor and fabrication yard to ensure safe, high-quality, and on-schedule execution. This is a senior leadership role managing multidisciplinary teams including construction engineers, inspectors, HSE personnel, quality specialists, and pre-commissioning professionals.

  • Champion a strong safety culture across all fabrication activities through visible leadership, regular site presence, toolbox talks, and HSSE inspections.
  • Lead the owner's site team within the fabrication yard, ensuring effective coordination across engineering, construction, quality, HSE, and commissioning disciplines.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with the EPC contractor and fabrication yard management to resolve issues efficiently and support successful project delivery.
  • Oversee all fabrication activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, contractual requirements, schedule, and budget.
  • Monitor fabrication progress, identify risks to project delivery, and work collaboratively with contractors to develop and implement recovery plans where required.
  • Ensure fabrication is completed with minimal carry-over work and achieves readiness for sail-away with zero defects.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, quality, HSE, procurement, and commissioning teams to ensure timely inspections, witness points, and hold points are completed.
  • Oversee marine warranty survey requirements and ensure compliance with marine cargo insurance obligations during module fabrication and load-out.
  • Ensure contractor quality management systems, inspection and testing activities, and project procedures are fully implemented.
  • Support and oversee pre-commissioning activities including system cleaning, loop checking, degreasing, electrical energization, and related activities to minimize rework.
  • Provide regular progress reports, highlight project risks and constraints, and escalate critical issues to project leadership when necessary.
  • Mentor and develop site personnel while fostering a collaborative and high-performance working environment.

  • Strong commitment to Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) excellence.
  • Thorough understanding of EPC project execution and contract management.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams in a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Sound knowledge of industry codes, international standards, and best engineering practices.
  • Ability to review project schedules, analyze progress, and recommend optimization strategies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in Huangdao, Qingdao, China.
  • Candidates should be willing to relocate locally for the duration of the project.
  • Standard working hours average approximately 55 hours per week, following the project site's working schedule.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of module fabrication experience within the oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, or major energy sector.
  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership or managerial position within a fabrication yard or major construction project.
  • Previous LNG project experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience working as part of an Owner's team is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large international fabrication projects, particularly within China.
  • Experience supporting projects destined for the US Gulf Coast is considered beneficial.
