Brunel is partnering with a leading global mining company to recruit a Director of Maintenance Strategy & Planning. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for developing and standardizing maintenance and reliability strategies across mining operations throughout the Americas.

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid) Travel: Up to 50% (domestic & international)

What are you going to do 

About the Role:

As the Director of Maintenance Strategy & Planning, you will lead the development of enterprise-wide maintenance standards, planning processes, and reliability programs that improve asset performance, reduce operational risk, and optimize equipment lifecycle costs.

You will collaborate with operations, maintenance, reliability, engineering, and supply chain teams to ensure maintenance strategies are practical, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and govern maintenance and reliability strategies across multiple mining operations.
  • Establish standardized maintenance planning, scheduling, and work management processes.
  • Drive improvements in asset availability, equipment reliability, and maintenance performance.
  • Lead enterprise maintenance planning initiatives, including outage and shutdown optimization.
  • Create decision frameworks for equipment repair, refurbishment, replacement, and life extension.
  • Ensure maintenance strategies are aligned with workforce capabilities, operational needs, and capital planning.
  • Analyze asset performance data and failure trends to drive continuous improvement.
  • Build systems to capture and share maintenance best practices across sites.
  • Partner with site leadership to improve maintenance process maturity and execution consistency.
  • Support the adoption of new technologies and data-driven maintenance solutions.

Essential skills and knowledge

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Maintenance, Reliability, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive maintenance and reliability experience within mining, heavy industry, processing plants, or similar operations.
  • Strong knowledge of fixed plant and/or heavy mobile mining equipment.
  • Expertise in maintenance and reliability methodologies, including:
    • Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM)
    • Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA)
    • Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)
    • Condition Monitoring and Predictive Maintenance
  • Proven experience developing maintenance strategies across multiple sites.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance work management, planning, scheduling, and shutdown execution.
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide process improvement and standardization initiatives.
  • Proficiency with CMMS platforms such as SAP PM and maintenance analytics tools.
  • Strong leadership, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Ability to work at mining sites and elevated locations as required.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
